After a bit of wise advice from our captain Bruce the “shot gun start field” spread out and got away on time at 7.30 am. The morning dampness had its way early for a number of the teams, with the course once again mastering the aspirations of the majority of golfers. However, the course did not faze the team comprising of two “in form” ladies, Di Kenefake and Jo Jennings, who were ably sup- ported by the steadying bloke in- fluence provide by one J Hodgens. This team managed to defeat the dynamic duo of Johnston and Balm by the narrowest of margins 0.25. The nett score of 60.5 was much too good on the day for the rest of us battlers. Golfers enjoyed the day, as a bit of ambrose always serves break up the routine, and for some the mo- notony, of continual alternate stroke and stableford competitions. Next Sunday the club is con- ducting a stroke event, which should present our golfers with an- other opportunity to challenge the course rating whilst the run of good weather holds. Time sheet for this is on the no- tice board, first tee off is at 7am. Our captain Bruce has advised that he will be organising a nine- hole Katherine Pennants team’s end of season BBQ bash. Graciously, Bruce has advised that Katherine rebels from the Jabiru 2 side are most welcome. This will follow the Katherine Veterans nine-hole competition and will give us an additional op- portunity to farewell John Payne, and reminisce on last season’s glo- ries. Sounds like a long day for some. Last Saturday a small field of those members of the Katherine Veterans Golf Club that were not put off by an early morning storm, competed in a nine hole stroke competition. Unfortunately, I have not been advised of the identity of the Vet who streaked away from the rest of the field to savour the valuable Vet’s purse (will provide details next week). Next Saturday at 10.30, the Vets will polish off their armour to yet again enter into a Kegs coordinated conflict over nine testing holes. Pre-match briefing will take place in the club at 10am, “juniors” and visitors again most welcome.
