Step 1: Create an email account

1.Choose a “user name” and password that you can easily remember and WRITE IT DOWN!

2.Go to www.google.com3.Sign up!4.Your email address will be:

username@gmail.com5. Learning to use this account is another

class!Most important thing to know: your new mail

will be in your INBOX.

Step 2: Find and use the library’s job search web page

1. Go to www.catawbacountync.gov/library2. Click on “Finding Work: Your Library Can Help!”

Each section addresses the different needs of an unemployed person:

3. Job search brochureSection headings are aligned with the job search process and list good websites to explore.

4. Dealing with unemploymentDirect link to Employment Security Commission website.

5. Getting ready for your job searchThe fact sheet is a great tool!We will explore more of this website later in the class.

Step 3: Find the resources to create a professional resume

1. Read about resumes on the links at “Getting ready for your job search.”

2. To create one in Microsoft Word1. Open Microsoft Word2. Click on the round “Office Button” in the top, left-hand

corner3. Click on “New”4. Scroll down the panel and click on “Resumes and CVs”5. Click on “Basic Resumes”6. Choose a type and click on it.7. Click on the “Download Button”8. Click on the text boxes in each section and enter your

information.9. Choose “Save as” to save your resume.

Step 4: Find reputable job sites

1.Find a listing of good job search sites at:“Searching online for jobs”

2.Each job search site has its own instructions, so read these before you begin searching.
