And many more….
What is a smart city?
Do we need smart city?
Urbanization in IndiaIndia is moving from being primarily agrarian economies to industrial and service sectors.Urban areas provide the agglomerations that the industrial and service sectors need.Urbanization accompanies economic developmentIn India the urban population is currently around 31% of the total population, it contributes over 60% of India’s GDP.It is projected that urban India will contribute nearly 75% of the national GDP in the next 15 years. This is why Cities are referred to as the “engines of economic growth”
UrbanizationEvery minute during the next 20 years, 30 Indians will leave rural India for urban areasAs population centers grow, they are placing greater demands on the city infrastructures that deliver vital services such as transportation, healthcare, education and public safety.Adding to the strain are ever-changing public demands for better education, greener programs, accessible government, affordable housing and more options for senior citizens.
Urbanization – Rising Demand for Skills
Urbanization – Global Migration of Educated Peoples
Urbanization – Water
Urbanization – CO2 Emissions
Urbanization
Urbanization "If the nineteenth century was the century of empires and the twentieth century the century of nation states, then the twenty-first century will be the century of cities"
Wellington E. Webb Former US Conference of Mayors' President and Denver Mayor
Smart City A city can be defined as ‘smart’ when investments in human and social capital and traditional (transport) and modern (ICT) communication infrastructure fuel sustainable economic development and a high quality of life, with a wise management of natural resources, through participatory action and engagement.
-Caragliu et al. 2009
Smart City “one that makes optimal use of all the interconnected information available today to better understand and control its operations and optimize the use of limited resources”
“Cities who adopt scalable solutions that take advantage of information and communications technology (ICT) to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and enhance the quality of life”
“A Smart City delivers public and civic services to citizen and businesses in an integrated and resource efficient may while enabling innovative collaborations to improve quality of life and grow the local and national economy”
