When you go on a road trip, it’s a good idea to know where you are headed and how you are planning to get there. Your career should be no different.

The starting point: Write down who you are. Strengths, skills, qualifications, interests, experience, what is important to you?

The journey: write down how others see you. What are you known for? What is your brand? What do you want others to think about you?

Your destination: write down your ideal career and life.

The roadblocks: write down the obstacles getting in the way. No confidence?, no qualifications? No experience?

Once you know that is holding you back, think about how you can drive around these obstacles. Go back to study? Work your way up the ladder? An apprenticeship?

Your career map is now done. Keep it somewhere you will see often and start moving towards your goal.
