HADE EDGE GALA
he Hade Edge Breeze
Where it’s always a good drying day !!!
Gala Issue (aka “The Little one” !!!)
A big thank you to John Lloyd of Hade Edge of Floor8productions for the production of the poster for this event.
HADE EDGE GALA
Gala plans gather pace………….
Following the fantastic success of the Jubilee Celebrations, plans for the Hade Edge Gala are
rapidly taking shape.
The Gala takes place on 14th July and will begin with Hade Edge Band leading the
traditional procession from the Chapel down Dunford Road at 1.30pm.
The official opening takes place on the football field at 2pm when the King and Queen will be
crowned. There will be the usual stalls, why not have a go on the coconut shy or see if you
can Play Your Cards Right? Dads will want to show their dexterity with the mini digger and
then stare wistfully at the Classic Cars and Tractors. There will be a pig roast, glorious cakes
and some wonderful entertainment lined up. For example at 3pm (weather permitting) there
will be flypast by a Tiger Moth airplane.
Lightfoot School of Dance will perform and we’ll also see a gymnastic display featuring pupils
from Hade Edge School. At 4pm the accordion band will be knocking us bandy with some
barnstorming tunes.
A Toddler Corner will be available as will a Bouncy Castle and of course an Ice Cream van
and a Bar.
It is always a great day for the village but it wouldn’t work without the support of local people.
Please join us on 14th for at least some part of the afternoon and sincere thanks to the many
villagers who contribute to making the gala happen and to making Hade Edge a great place
to live.
Once the Gala has finished villagers are allowed a few hours rest before putting on their
dancing shoes and joining in with the evening party that takes place in the marquees on the
football field from 7pm.
The formula is simple, bring your own food and drink, (although this year the Bar will be open)
and enjoy performances by three local bands, “Jimmy no pants Dare,” “Suilven,” and the al-
most legendary “Hade Edge Collective” who will be knocking out party tunes late into the
night. Entry is by wrist band and these are available in advance from Paul Turner, at the Gala
in the afternoon or on the gate. Bring some friends and come along, feel the noise…..

Donations
If anyone has a raffle or tombola prizes they could offer, can you please ring either Kerry on 680235
or Helen on 07841 752973, who would be happy to organise collection. The Pre-school are also
looking for Teddies for their tombola, Kerry can also collect these, or please drop off at the Pre-
school.
Also if you would like to bake a cake for the event, we would be ever so grateful, if you could drop
these off at Pam and Michaels house at 2 Green Abbey on the Friday before the Gala.
Thank you

HADE EDGE GALA—PAST TIMES
Here are a few pictures from past Gala’s for you, thank you to Mrs Clayton !
THE HADE EDGE JUBILEE
The Hade Edge Jubilee Event was a fantastic success, it was really well attended, and
we raised just over £1000 for the planter for the village, which is an amazing.
A big thank you to all who attended, we hope you enjoyed yourselves !
A massive thank you to everyone who played a part in this event, ALL the volunteers
and contributors, to “The Collective” for the live music, John Lloyd for the disco music,
DJ Dave and Colin for the Children’s Entertainment. We should be all very proud we
live in a village where people are willing to help out, to make the event possible, and to
create great memories for all those who came !
Of course a BIG thank you to Longleys, Brindons, Millside Heating and the Parish
Council for their financial contributions towards the event.
A special thank you though to Kerry Sykes for organising the event, Helen Craggs for
sorting out the live music and Richard Slack for all his help with the marquee.
JUBILEE PICS !
SPEEDING
The Valleys Police have had a big presence over the last few weeks, to
monitor drivers speed through the village. Many people were booked
for speeding (though unfortunately some of these were from the
village, as picked up by the local Examiner newspaper !)
The statics made available to us from the Police in summary showed
75% of people speeding through the village on one day and 90% the
following.
Obviously this is very concerning to the village, and something must
be done about this before a child is injured or killed.
Speed statistics are now being gathered by equipment currently
installed in the village, which should be available soon.
Kirklees council has also sent a letter to Tate Travel Bus company to
highlight villagers concerns with the speed of their drivers through the
village.
If you have not signed the petition yet, please do so, written petitions
are also available at the Sunday School Hall near the Chapel and the
Bay Horse Pub.
The online petition is found using the address below, or simply type
Hade Edge Speeding Petition into Google !!!

Parish Council Community Champions Award
You may have now received your Newsletter from the Holme Valley
Parish Council, but I would like to say a personal big well done to my
wife Kerry Sykes, for receiving this award, which was featured.
Some of the reasons for this include this newsletter the
“Hade Edge Breeze”, which she put’s a lot of effort into producing.
Also if you are on Facebook, please like her page she runs totally
voluntary for Holmfirth which is “Holmfirth What’s on Calendar”, or
check out her website www.holmfirthevents.co.uk, you may not be
aware, but she has never had any web developer training, she just
“had a go !”
The last comment from one of the councillors was “Her Energy and
Commitment are an Inspiration”, this makes me so proud of her !
She does all this on top of raising our 3 beautiful daughters !

NOTICES
PLANTERS FOR THE VILLAGE
The planters have arrived for the village, 2 of which are from
Kirklees Council, which look lovely, a big thank you to Donald Firth
our local Kirklees Council. Thank to you all those who volunteered
to get this into place, they look lovely.
The planter from the Jubilee is still being planned, details of which
should be available for the Gala !
EXERCISING YOUR DOGS IN THE PLAY GROUND
Can you please dispose of the dog poo bags in a bin, there have been
complaints of used bags in the local fields where animals reside,
which is obviously of concern to the local farmers. Also if you
have a child taking your dog for a walk, please ensure they carry
a bag, and are happy about collecting any waste.
There is a Waste Bag dispenser at the top of the Park (Near the
Playground), if you find this empty, please ring Kerry Sykes on
680235 who has some spare bags for re-fills. Dog poo bags are
also available from either the Parish Council or the Tourist
information office, which are free of charge.
If you have information about a dog walker who fails to pick up,
please report it to the local council or dog warden on 01484
221199 . The person responsible can be issued with a fixed penalty notice, or
prosecuted in the Magistrates Court where a fine of up to £1,000 can be made. If you
are aware of an re-occurring situations, the dog wardens would always appreciate any
photographic or video evidence, which will help them in the prosecution.

Planning a party; hire a marquee and help the village !!!
HEAR have bought the marquee that we use for the Gala each year. The company that used to hire it approached us with an excellent offer to buy the tent outright. It’ll obviously be in use on the Saturday 14th July which is Gala Day; get it your diary now! If residents would like to hire the steel framed marquee it is available at very competitive rates. A number of members of the committee have undertaken training in how to put the tent up which can go on hard standing as well as grass. You can hire the marquee and dance floor with prices starting from £295 which includes transport and labour costs. The tent can be configured 15ft X15ft or 15ft X 30ft depending on the space that you have available. Bookings can be made via Richard Slack on 07871 959 102 and remember, by using the tent you will be helping the village to support the senior citizens lunch, the football club, the band and other local groups that make Hade Edge a great place to live.
