Guidance is a continuous process of helping the individual to develop to the maximum of his capacity in the direction, most beneficial to himself and to society.

A guidance program is a program of services specially designed to improve the adjustment of the individual for whom it was organized.

There are primarily three types of guidance

Educational Guidance

Vocational Guidance

This type of guidance is provided to students in order to control:

anxiety

anger

addiction

depression

Eating disorders

Educational Guidance:

Educational guidance means a range of activities designed to assist people to make appropriate learning choices. A guidance counselor can help you to identify the wide range of opportunities which are open to you

Vocational Guidance:

A guidance service based on psychologist tests and interviews to find out what career or occupation may best suit a person.

Nature of Guidance

A Process:

Guidance does not occupy independent place. The chief aim of this process is to assist in the development of an individual keeping in view the social needs.

During the process of guidance the individual is assisted in such a way that he makes himself enabled to develop his capacities maximum from all angles.

No Imposition of One's View Point:

It is also the main characteristic of guidance not to impose one's view-point on others. It depends upon the wish of an individual how he acquires benefit by accepting the decision of the guidance worker.

Guidance is accepted as individualized help. Through guidance an individual's personal development is provided a direction and not to a group.

Trained persons, psychologists and counselors are required. Hence, guidance is a skill-involved process.
