Children have the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually
Gosforth Private Day Nursery has
been caring for pre-school children
since 1980. Our aim is to provide a
friendly, warm and secure environment
where children have the opportunity to
develop socially, emotionally, physically
and intellectually, and to achieve their
full potential. The happiness and well-
being of our children is of paramount
importance.
We accept children aged 16 months
to 5 years for full or half days and we
are open Monday to Friday from 8.00
a.m. to 5.30 p.m., all year round except
for Bank Holidays. We provide a mid-
morning snack, lunch and afternoon
tea. All meals are well balanced and
freshly prepared on the premises.
We hope that our prospectus will give
you an insight into our life here and
encourage you to find out more.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Welcome
Although the atmosphere is informal,
there is structure and control. While
encouraging independence, we also
give unlimited comforting cuddles!
A structured programme of varied
activities is offered, geared to meet
the needs of each individual child. To
facilitate this, children are divided into
classes according to age.
Children are encouraged to develop
their imagination, manipulative skills,
language, powers of reasoning and self-
confidence.
We aim to encourage children’s self esteem and encourage respect for others
Parents are secure in the knowledge
that their children are happy, well cared
for and receiving pre-school education
of the highest quality.
Learning through play is important
and children have access at all times
to ‘messy play’, using such materials as
sand, water, paint, dough, collage, clay
and papier maché.
We allow parents freedom to pursue their careers with peace of mind
All children have access to computers
with a wide range of suitable software.
An enclosed all weather safety play
surface enables year round outdoor
play in total security.
Various outings take place throughout
the year to such places as the library,
park and theatre. We also regularly
welcome visitors to the nursery to
talk to the children, such as the Police,
Firefighters, Road Safety Officer,
Dental Health Education Officer, etc.
The fundamentals of basic literacy
and numeracy are taught, taking into
account each child’s readiness for
this. Children enjoy creative dance in
addition to music, drama, singing and
dancing. Spanish fun lessons are held
twice weekly, aiming to sow the seed
that language learning can be fun!
Our curriculum also covers nature
study and an introduction to early years
science.
The nursery is well equipped with toys, books and resources
All children have access to computers with a wide range of suitable software
All our children are welcomed with a smile!
Staff members are chosen for their
patience, enthusiasm, sense of humour,
positive approach and, above all, their
love of children.
They are highly committed, welcoming,
and can be approached at any time for
information regarding the progress of
children.
Our staff/child ratios are low, enabling
considerable individual attention.
We believe in partnership with parents
in order to provide the most effective
supplementary care of your children.
We are mindful that all children are
individuals and we endeavour to meet
their individual needs.
We accept differences in race, culture,
religious beliefs, language and gender
and we adopt an equal opportunities
policy for all.
Our staff are qualified, professional and caring
We are open 52 weeks a year
Most children enter nursery between
July and September, however, a limited
number of places are available at
other times. Two to four weeks before
commencement, we invite all children
to begin an initiation programme.
The settling in period depends largely
on the nature and prior experience of
the child, and will normally consist
of several short introductory visits,
leading to gradually extending sessions,
in order to build up confidence and
familiarise the child with his/her new
environment. No charge is made for
introductory visits.
