GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This is a type of greenhouse effect.

FACTS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING

• Emissions like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and other greenhouses gases will remain in the atmosphere for many years making impossible to eliminate global warming for several decades.

• Since 1880, the average temperature has risen by 1.4-Fahrenheit degrees• The Arctic is one of the worst places to be effected by global warming.• Humans are emitting more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, faster  than

the absorbing rates of plants and the oceans.• 200o-2009 has been the hottest decade periods of the earth.•  Between 2000-2100, the heat related deaths will rise by 150,000.• Droughts, hurricanes, wildfires, extinction on endangered species, melting

of polar ice caps, storms are few of the effects of global warming.

 How does Global Warming work?

(a) Earth absorbs most of the sunlight it receives(b) Earth then emits the absorbed light's energy as infrared light (c) greenhouse gases absorb a lot of the infrared light before it can leave our atmosphere(d) being absorbed slows the rate at which energy escapes to space; and (e) the slower passage of energy heats up the atmosphere, water, and ground.

Causes

• The Co2 concentration increased in atmosphere about 30% due to human activities.

• It is predicted that we’ll soon reach carbon dioxide concentrations that haven’t been seen on Earth in the last 50 million years.

1. Deforestation

• The use of forests for fuel is one cause of deforestation.

• We are chopping forests which is not a good sign and has also leads to de-crease in rainfalls

• deforestation releases large amounts of carbon

2. Methane and Nitrous oxide emissions

• From agriculture, Arctic sea beds and factoriesmethane gas.

• As methane escapes from the Arctic seabed, the rate of global warming increases, accordingly.

• With the increase in the amount of concentrated livestock production, the levels of methane released into the atmos-phere is increasing.

3. Aerosols

They scatter and absorb solar and infra-red radiation.

They may change the micro-physical and chemical properties of clouds and possibly their lifetime and extent

4. Sea level

Increase in sea levels is the result of melting of two massive ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland as researched by scientists.

Many nations around the world will experience the effects of rising sea levels, which could displace millions of people,

5. Water Vapor

• Water vapor is increasing in the atmosphere due to carbon dioxide-induced warming.

• Two-thirds of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases is contained in water vapor, and as the average temperature on the planet to raises.

6. Fossil Fuels

Each time a fossil fuel burn, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere increase.

CO2 absorbs infra-red energy emitted from the earth’s surface, preventing it from returning to space.

7. Population Increase

• As the population on Earth increases, food and housing demands along with other basic necessities also increase.

GLOBAL WARMING A CAUSE FOR HUMAN EXTINCTION???

• No population of a large vertebrate animal in the history of the planet has grown that much, that fast, or with such devastatig consequences to its fellow earthling.

• No population of a large vertebrate animal in the history of the planet has grown that much, that fast, or with such devastating consequences to its fellow earthling.

• No population of a large vertebrate animal in the history of the planet has grown that much, that fast, or with such devastating consequences to its fellow earthling.

• Forty percent of the planet’s land is devoted to human food production, up from 7 percent in 1700.

IMPACT OF GLOBAL

WARMING

POTENTIALWHAT IT IS DOING; AND WHAT IT CAN DO AND AT WHAT SCALE.

SCARY ENOUGH?LETS JUST BE HUMANS(SELFISH)

- AND TALK ABOUT WHAT IT WILL DO TO US FIRST.

• Temperatures will continue to riseACTUAL SUMMERTIME SADNESS

• Changes in precipitation patternsALL YEAR ROUND RAINS?

• More droughts and heat wavesNOT COOL. CANT SEE MORE FARMERS DIE.

• Hurricanes will become stronger and more intenseFLYING HOUSES, MORE FLOODS, AND DESTRUCTION ALL OVER.

• Sea level will rise 1-4 feet by 2100HIGH TIDE ALL TIME? NO MARINE DRIVE? SCUBA DIVING HAJI ALI?

• Arctic likely to become ice-freeNO POLAR BEARS, NO PENGUINS?

One area of particular concern is the Himalayans. 1/3 of the worlds fresh drinking water comes from the run off from this glacier system.

A direct consequence from our polluting actions will be the disappearance of these vital glaciers.

What will happen to those couple billion who depend on this previously reliable water source?

REST OF THE WORLD, 3.2 billion people

will experience water scarcity

400 to 600 will be threatened by hunger generated by global warming

Each year an additional 2 to 7 million people will be victims of coastal flooding

LETS TALK ABOUT INDIAN SUBCONTINENT

It’s impacting every notch of our delicately balanced ecological system, such as Animals( we have no right to melt

down their homes, or cut down their forests)

Viruses( Diseases will spread faster than ever)

Migration habits

279 species of plants and animals have responded to global warming, migrating closer to the poles.

LETS JUST SEE AROUND THE

WORLD

Diseases? They can kill us faster than ever if this doesn’t

stop.

Threat to flora and fauna

Global warming rampage wont spare these innocent beings also. Lets not forget, its

their home equally.

The WWF recently released their expectations, according to their research, a raise of 2-3C will transform 60% of the Amazon forest (home to 2/3 of the worlds plant species) into a arid savanna. The number of problems that will erupt from such an event are endless.

The top five countries share in common smart policies and commitments to get their energy from renewable sources. In fact, Finland, with a goal to reach carbon-neutrality by 2050, already derives almost two-thirds of its electricity from renewable or nuclear energy.Read more at: http://phys.org/news/2016-02-world-ecosystems-human-health.html#jCpeep pollution tax on trucks has resulted in a 19-20% reduction in the number of commercial vehicles entering the city and a 35% drop in particulate matter load from trucks, the Environment Pollution Control Authority said in its status report filed in the court on Thursday. The move, imposed in October 2015, has also led to a 31% reduction in oxides of nitrogen ( NOx) pollution from trucks and other commercial vehicles, EPCA said in its report based on a survey commissioned by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).

The Difference between global warming and

climate change

What Do you picture when I say Global warming

And What do you picture when I saw climate change

According to a research done at Yale university , when people were asked the same question here is what they

replied

So Global warming is a more known phenomenon as 79 % of people know about it

Global warming is perceived as more dangerous and serious

While scientists go with climate change

But causes of both are nearly same

Scientist go with climate change because

It is more accurate concept

It is long term

and a constant thing

while media and politicians prefer global warming due to its emotional appeal

Global warming is increase in earth’s temperature since industrial revolution because of green house emission ,change of land use ,burning of fossil fuels

Climate change is the long term change to whole planets ‘s climate including wind pattern ,snowfall ,rainfall ,humidity etc

climate change is a broader concept

it is much more older concept

Is global warming real ?

According to a new Antarctica has gained so much ice it is over balanced for the ice that the continent has lost .

From 1992 to 2010 continent gained more ice than it lost in melting

112 billion every year

There is more ice now than from 1981 to 2010

The truth behind all these facts

This new research is consistent with global warming data

Increase in ice is infact a outcome of global warming

Ice has only increased in east and part of west Antarctica

But rest of the continent is losing ice

And gaining ice very bad

Why there is increase in the ice

So increase in ice is outcome of global warming and its very bad for earth

Melting glaciers are depositing fresh water into the ocean

Fresh water freezes faster

Salt water has a much lower freezing point

Fresh water has dilutes the salt water around the continent therefore it freezes more

But water underneath the diluted layer is still warming All these are very dangerous for earth Oceans have warmed around 0.18 f in the top 700 meters alone but such a

small change is very dangerous for a big planet like earth

Earth is heating faster then predicted

Freezing winters

Why was America freezing when the glob is warming

Polar vortex was responsible for the freezing temperature in the us and Canada

It is a large pocket of very cold air that sits over polar region

Study claims the recent polar vortex may have been caused by melting polar ice

Warm water melts the ice and this causes warm air to be released

Warm air destabilises polar air sending cold blasts into atmosphere

As global warming continues to heats ocean freezing winters will increase

Bangladesh

1. Bangladesh is situated on river delta 2. This makes it very vulnerable to rising sea level 3. Scientists have predicted 13 mt rise in sea level bordering this poor country 4. But impact of global warming can be seen clearly today too 5. Thousands of people have lost their homes ,agricultural land .they are forced to

migrate 6. Floods have been a constant thing in the area but it has increased and has taken

a dangerous avatar causing massive poverty ,diseases 7. Poverty has led to human trafficking
