PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to our new students Zeke and Hannah and their families. Playground updates We have recently asked the students what resources, games and activities they would like to have in the playground. We are looking forward to hearing what our students would like to make their lunch and recess more enjoyable and engaging. Watch this space to hear what we have available for students. External Validation Once, during a four-year cycle, schools undergo an external validation from the evidence of their school self-assessment. Each year approximately 25% of schools are selected as a representative sample across School Performance Directorates. Schools engage in discussions with an external panel and have their self-assessments validated using the School Excellence Framework (SEF). The panel, comprising of a Principal School Leadership (PSL) and a peer principal, meet with the school external validation team and determine whether the school's evidence supports their self-assessment using each element of the SEF. An external validation panel report, which includes the school-determined next steps in the self-assessment process, and school-determined future directions to support school improvement, is provided to the school following the external validation. Gillieston Public School recently completed their external validation with a very pleasing report. The executive team have since met to discuss the future directions to support school improvement. We will continue to have a strong focus on data use, effective classroom practice, student wellbeing, community engagement and high expectations. I would like to thank Kristin Ison, Emma Abdilla, Donna Madden and Anne-Maree Campbell for their organisation of the external validation evidence. Toys at school We have a number of students bringing toys and sports equipment to school. We generally have a ‘no toys at school’ rule. If your child does bring a toy or item to school for news or another reason, please be aware that we are unable to take any responsibility for lost or damaged items. It would be devastating to have items of value lost or broken at school. It is also a good idea to label any items, so we are able to return them to the owner if they are found. Kindergarten Enrolments 2022 We are currently taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2022. If you live in zone and have any children who are coming to Gillieston in 2022 or know anyone who does, please complete an online enrolment form or contact the office.
For online enrolments please use this website: https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/online-enrolment-for-nsw-public-schools
Have a great week!

ZONE ATHLETICS
CARNIVAL What a great way to end Education Week 2021 at the Maitland Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival!
After the frost melted, it was a beautiful day!
Our students represented our school with such enthusiasm, respect and a positive attitude. The best part? The team work and encouragement from each other as they cheered their peers on during the events.
Some photos are below but it was hard to get shots of these fast moving and busy competitors! Thankyou to the parents and families for their support. #proudtobegillieston
FOCUS CLASS KC
We recently dressed up as 100 year old’s to celebrate 100 days of Kindergarten. It was such a great day!
In writing, we have been learning about nouns. Can you see the nouns in our sentences?

FOR LEARNING
Week 4 – Captain Gillo is looking at the COLA for students who are:
Lining up under the COLA when the music plays and packing away lunch boxes and equipment at lunch and recess.
Week 5 – PBL lessons will focus on Self-Regulation. What zone are you in?
Teachers will be discussing with students: what can I do when I feel frustrated? How does your body feel? How do you react?
Our PBL Playground Reward draw is drawn every Monday by Mr Bichard for K-2 and Miss Schelle for years 3-6. Gillo Golds are drawn from the playground mailboxes and lucky prize winners will enjoy an ice block prize.
