a few enterprising individuals who, starting with nothing in early 1940s struggled against all odds and turned
this concern into a most efficient industry in Pakistan
When some people started their efforts in that sector. The big name in fans manufacturing was Gujrat we can
say that that is the place where fans take their birth. Their true effort makes the way easier for them and after 59
years. Gujrat become the big industrial area for Pakistan.
That is about how fan industry formed. In early 1940s, there were some efforts made which is made by the few
individuals at beginning. This is an industry on which all Pakistanis can rightly proudly of. Its does not owes its
successes to any foreign collaboration or any from the Government. But to its own people who constantly
research for maintaining good quality & devising new methods and techniques of productivity have now
resulted in a product which we can rightly claim as best in the world. A big name who made revelation in that
sectors are GFC fans their brands are one of best in the world.

Industry
The people or companies engaged in a particular kind of commercial enterprise; "each industry has its own
trade publications"
Electric Fans
Fans have valuable uses both in the home and at work. Keeping cool when it's hot out makes everyone's
lifestyle a little more enjoyable and installing ceiling fans or picking up a stand-alone model will surely help
you out. Enjoyment and breaking a sweat are not the only reasons for buying fans, however. Industrial fans can
promote health and safety by regulating air currents, and removing foreign particles that may be byproducts of
factory processes. Craftsmen should keep fans in their workspace to prevent dust inhalation.
Hospitals use fans to ventilate sick rooms and control the airflow to prevent the spread of diseases. Small fans
are also used in machinery to cool parts that are at risk of overheating. This includes computer fans, and fans
found in engines. Look for electric fans today that are in style, functionally sound, and will last a long time
Number of Units in Pakistan
There are now over five hundred fan manufacturing units operating in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore and a few
other cities. Except for a few, the rest falls into the category of cottage industry. These small units from the real
backbone of this industry. They provide employment to a large number of people and all put together account of

International Competitive & Market
In the international market GFC fans faces the big names as competitors from Japan, China, America,
Malaysia and India are the big name in Fans manufacturing. GFC fans is the only industry in Pakistan
who take the tender for export to USA recently. The buyer of the USA shows the confidence on this
industries ability that’s why they give them the orders.
GFC fans also exported their fans in the England. The recent export leads was about 4,560.00$ that was
the first time when a GFC fans were export their fans to UK. The changing temperature of the world
demands a fans industry to produce
more fans and in the international market GFC fans is not a very big name as to beat Japan but they are
not far away from them as well.
GFC fans growing their setup through better marketing in the international market15
Currently they are exporting their products in the following counties and the export
leads are also given to analysis the production power and sales of the industry
In Arab Countries there is a big demand for the GFC fans because of the quality, cheap prices, &
goodwill. GFC fans are exporting their products in the following countries.
Saudi Arabia 2,672,459.00$
U.A.E. 797,487.00$
Qatar 81,689.00$
Yemen Republic 1,280,682.00$
The leading exports are made to Bangladesh. Other countries details are also given below
Bangladesh 4,439,026.00$
Africa 195,077.00$
West Indies 4,810.00$
Afghanistan 183,287.00$
England 4,560.00$
Bangladesh is the very attractive and big market of fan industry for GFC fans because there is no a big name in
the manufacturing of the electric fans at all. They only can afford the fans made by Pakistan or India that’s why
they depends on these two countries for importing of fans due to better quality and cheap price GFC fans suites
their tastes and it also fulfills the needs or demand of the locals.
16
Bangladesh, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Bahrain. Qatar, Sudan, Egypt, U.S.A. etc. G.F.C. was the first
Pakistani company to export fans to the Middle-East. G.F.C. Fans became an instant success due to their quality
and durability in all the markets where these were introduced.
G.F.C. had participated in “SAITEX” as the Chief Executive of the company, Engineer Mohammad Ilyas was
himself present at the stall. During this exhibition the company secured handsome export orders from the
different parts of South Africa.
G.F.C begins exporting its fans to Mozambique. G.F.C. is delivering its cool breeze to the people of South
Africa as our products are available in Mozambique.
Attaining the highest recognition G.F.C on its consecutive 4th year has achieved 26th Export Trophy
Award.
G.F.C being the most popular brand as for the electric fans in Bangladesh most of the fan manufacturers in
Bangladesh are using “GFC” trade mark beside the manufacturers of China who are exporting their electric
fans to Bangladesh with the same Trade Mark
G.F.C. has been getting the Export Trophy from FPCCI for the export of electric fans for many years. The
growth rate of fan export from G.F.C has been continuously more than 100% per annum for the last 5
years. 1/3rd of the total fans exported from Pakistan are G.F.C. Fans. G.F.C has large International orders
many time more than the previous years for the financial year 2001-2002 and we are looking forward to
export fans to all part of the world including United States and Europe
17
Mr. Muhammad Ilyas receiving Export Trophy from General Pervaz Musharaf.
Economical Situations
The economic position of the electrical fans market is worse the prices of the raw material is disturbing the
whole economic chart of the GFC fan. The price of the essential raw materials used in production fluctuates
In the reign of Ex-Prime Minister Nawaz sharif Industries grows a lot because he was also a industrialist he
know the problems of industry and other hurdles. He really sports the industry. He give great importance to this
sector because no doubt this sector is mostly GFC fan is the great represented of the Pakistan in the
international market they are effected for the economy of Pakistan.
But now things are going in the favor of banking only because of Prime Minister Shoukat
Aziz ex banker. He is giving at attentions to Banking instead of Industry of Fans or other
Industries.
Material price raised and fluctuate in the daily routine of production so how a cost can be mange if this will
happen.
For instance: a copper, which is use in the fan manufacturing goes up to hundred present,
As compare to pervious rate.
Econmic instability may couse the GFC fans to go down because GFC is a big representor of the Pakistan if
economic problems will occur defiantly it will make problem for fans industry .
18
They can influence the economy of Pakistan but without the support of the Government it is not possible .So,
Government should encourage that sector to take their participation in the economy of Pakistan.
Political Situations
Political instability is not a good sign for fans industry . Because with continuous changing in the politicians
they Government strategies will be change.
When new man comes to power he will make the changes according to his view points he will make the
changes in the budget and other trade polices he can make a indifferent law about import and export of the
electric pasts.
So, political conflicts may cause the GFC fans bad performance
For instance: GFC fans make the dealing with some foreign enterprises a new reign comes and they change the
polices that electric fans industries have to pay these duties on this kind of imports.
There is a lot of problems which can be arise with the continuous political problems, And no doubt in the
Pakistani political position always affect the GFC fans because no Government is able to complete the time of
their reign.
People continuously changes in the higher level and their polices as well which disturbs the GFC fans to carry
on the successful journey
Cultural Environment
The cultures of the different areas may affect the GFC fans products and sales. In Euroup the cultures are
different they mostly use the fancy type of
19
fans which through a low air but looks nice when they are instilled in to the room. Because they do not need
high speed fans due to their cold temperature. But in some areas like Bangladesh, Dubai, Saudi Arabia & Africa
etc they need the products with high speed and better quality.
At some places people only likes to install the split units instead of electric fans because they need cooling
instead of fans air.
So, the cultures and the environment will defiantly affect the sale and service of the GFC fans but they cannot
change them but only in one way where they
can make change they have to make their products which fulfils the demand of that specific culture in that way
they can produce the required results
Technology
The new technology is a threat for GFC fans and all the other sectors as well because in the market a product is
based on the technology if some body introduced the new technology for Fans then GFC fans also have to
purchase that kind of technology to meet the demands of their buyers.
A new technology can be very useful for them because in the improvement in the technology the quality of the
product will increases and cost will decreases
20
So, Technology plays very important role in the success of the industry. If GFC uses the technology that other
firms do not have then defiantly their demand will increase .
GFC fans using the high technology Fans manufacturing machinery
To produce excellent quality products G.F.C uses the most modern/high tech machinery like Capstan & Turret
Lathes, Progressing Stamping presses, Die Casting Machines, Injection Molding Machines, Automatic
Armature Winding Machines, CNC Wire Cut Machines, Spark Erosion Machines and Ovens Containing
Conveyers for drying Stove Paint.
With all this latest machinery G.F.C. decided to increase its' product line by manufacturing premium quality
Washing machines & Desert Coolers.

Legal forces
Sometimes a legal force outside of the industry affects industry badly. The Pakistani laws do not allow this kind
of industry to perform independently. They are a lot of limitations and obligations.
22
The budget of the industrial sectors always a alarming for GFC industries becomes sometimes prices of the raw
material rise and prices of the product decreases.
Trade Policy
Before I come to the specific initiatives in the new Trade Policy, it will be appropriate to give you an outline of
strategy for the current year. The main elements of this strategy are :
Reducing cost of doing business
Increasing market access
Technology & skills up-gradation
Social, Environmental & Security Compliance

According to the companies CEO they said domestically there are few names in the list of competitors
Pak Fans

Royal Fans
These are well reputed in market these above comes under the A category of electric fans by Quality, Project
size ,& export rate they are ahead.
Pak fans have a very good demand at domestic & international level a market they export their fans in bulk.
That’s why Pak fans won the export through this year. Pak fans now expanding their setup they comes up with
the new product with different name WAHID Fans which is under the management of the Pak Fans. This idea
worked for Pak fans in foreign market and domestic market as well they change the designs and quality to
attract the customer.
24
Metro Fans are the emerging name on the horizon of fans industry they export the fans in bulk. But still they are
not able to beat Pak Fan or GFC Fans. But they have potential and now they are in the position to beat these
companies.
Royal Fans are well known for their quality their products are costly but there is no compromise for quality. So,
we will discuses the Metro fans as capacitive because of their well repute and achievements in the world market

SWOT Analysis (primarily the OT portion)
There are five main force from which a industry may have the Advantage, Threat, Opportunity or weakness
These five forces of competition include Direct competitors, Substitute products, Customers, Suppliers, and
new Entrants
A SWOT analysis is designed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the company (internal factors) and the

Competitors Achievements
Metro fans, they export their products to Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, U.K, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,
Oman, South Africa, Nigeria, Yemen and Pakistan
Pak Fans having a strong market in Pakistan their life time guarantee and service making them a unique they
have a very good market approach at domestic level. They are exporting their fan in Bangladesh, Dubai, Saudi

Weaknesses
On managerial level there is no proper way to find out the problems .
The product problem solving strategy is not t useful
No check and balance on the managerial staff
No check and balance on the piracy of fans
There research department is not so efficient.
34
No big research came out from them
Implication of information system is poor.
The concentration is diverted by producing different products in the same industry
The strategy planning is not so affective.
Using old methods to solve the problem
A managerial set up can be improved
Company actually fails to produce any emerging new product which other companies do not have there
is a lack of new idea product
Development of information System Alternative and options
Recommendations/Alternatives for Development of Information System
This company has the great setup and these weaknesses can be removed by better strategy or planning. They
should come up with the new product but with the same name through getting the services of Information
System.
DBMS data base management system should be brought in. that is a system which can be very handy in
mange’s the data base files or records of the company in a well mannered form .
We recommend them the IS system by using IS system this firm can touches the new heights of success
And there is one thing which I think very important is innovation in the
Industry they should introduce a new product in the market to attract the new buyers.
But to launch this product they need to get the services of IS system for excellent
Results.
35
The company can meet their annual target by making estimation through DBMS
Systems. Data base management system is a very unique way to make the reocords
of the company
By utilizing the strengths through IS system GFC Fans can be indifferent from the
the other sectors they have a great technology which needs better planning to use
They should brought in the Information Technology and computer based Information
Information Technology
Any machine technology that is controlled by or uses information for operation
Example: a programmable industrial robot receiving instructions from a computer-based database
Computer- based Information Systems
Any computer-based technology that provides information for use by persons or machines to make decisions
or control processes
By keeping aside of IS they should introduce the research department for new research in the fans industry
A new emerging product should be launched by GFC Fans to attracts the new market and customers in the new
place.
It can only happen if there were a research department will made by them. The innovation in the fan industry is
the necessary of the current era. People are tired of to see old fashioned fans they want a new look a new though
about fans.
36
As a Modern Fans companies (Canada) doing they introduced the latest technology in the fans area their models
styles are excellent
We present to the GFC fans a new format for developing the quilty control in the industry. That is a 8-D
worksheet formot which will essential for them to identify the problems of the industry.
Primary Uses of Information Systems for the SWOT approaches
Automation
Providing support to complete a task faster, more cheaply, and perhaps with greater accuracy and/or consistency
Organizational Learning (Informating)
Providing support to improve day-today operations by creating, acquiring, and transferring knowledge
Achieving Strategy
Providing support in a way that enables the firm to gain or sustain competitive advantage over rivals
8D :: Problem Solving Worksheet
That is the great improvisation to solve the quality control or problems of the industry in visit they like our
search and decided to make changes in it according to their needs and then use this for quality research
In down wards a worksheet is shown which we got from the search on the internet we found this useful for fans
industry that’s why we present that idia to GFC Fans

8-D is a quality management tool and is a vehicle for a cross-functional team to articulate thoughts and provides scientific determination to details of problems and provide solutions. Organizations can benefit from the 8-D approach by applying it to all areas in the company. The 8-D provides excellent guidelines allowing us to get to the root of a problem and ways to check that the solution actually works. Rather than healing the symptom, the illness is cured, thus, the same problem is unlikely to recur.

The Planning Stage:The 8-D method of problem solving is appropriate in "cause unknown" situations and is not the right tool if concerns center solely on decision-making or problem prevention. 8-D is especially useful as it results in not just a problem-solving process, but also a standard and a reporting format. Does this problem warrant/require an 8D? If so comment why and proceed.

What IS can does for GFC Fans
Current Strategy of GFC Fans
By : CEO GFC FANS
“The management and the workers of GFC FANS have a vision to supply in near future all types of
electric fans to all the countries of the world where fans are being used. We see ourselves as one of
the largest and most renowned fan manufacturing company in the world providing all types of fans
to all the countries according to their required specifications and needs. Our strategy is to enlarge
our market from the present day Middle-East to whole of Africa, Europe, America including South
America, Central America and Caribbean. We believe that we have a unique product which has
been developed by GFC and no other country manufactures a pedestal fan like ours. This product is
most useful in the hot tropical humid climates. We want to mark this product throughout the world
and we foresee this product to dominate the entire International market. We want to set up an
excellent after-sales-service and spare parts supply service
Syndicate 81
to each and every country. We also want to set up home service centers throughout the world. We
believe that within 10 years we can achieve an export target of US Dollars 40 Million”
The Nutshell of the strategy is just to expand the setup. They just want to cover all the world by
their products but how? That is not clear .
In our visit of GFC Fans they uses the same approach as their CEO used.
They point out the following Strategy steps which a GFC fans wishing to act upon
Finding new market in the world like Middle-East to whole of Africa, Europe, America
including South America, Central America and Caribbean
Introducing the motor bikes in near future
New technology for motor bikes
Sub office in big cities of Pakistan and world.
Installation of copper manufacturing machinery at for low cost copper wire production
The import of fans die for new designs
Satisfying the customers needs and demands
Giving more margin of profit to distributors for increase in sales
Eye on the competitors movements and achievements to over take and judge the
competitive force

Comparative Analysis of the Company’s Development/Successfulness
The grade of strategy’s successfulness is Very good. But it should be the excellent
The strategy is useful for the company in the production area they have excellent
Technology for producing the low cost products at high quality. They continuously plans for the
new technology to meet the up coming situations. We examined that the CEO personally a
technical engineer that’s why he concentrate more on the technology instead of the other factors
of the strategy. He brought in the new opportunities for their industry to make their products of
high quality by installation of new machinery for sake of Fans manufacturing. They have great
opportunities to occupy the world market they have a platform to rock in the world. As recently
they got marketing opportunities in the USA this is a big achievement still now company take that
opportunity.
The implementation of strategy is good they are effient in making the strategy possible.
Effectiveness of the strategy can be judge by the Achievements of the company which mentioned
earlier.Company has some weakness such as in Management and quality control. In our visit and
analysis of the company we came to know and conclude this point according to information
development the company who have the following weakness can be a big enterprises by
removing them their main weak ness’s are
On managerial level there is no proper way to find out the problems
Quality control mechanism is not so effective for company
There research department is not so efficient
The concentration is diverted by producing different products in the same industry
No big research came out from them

Implication of information system is poor.
Taking of Competitive Advantage against rivals
By using the IS as alternative
• Delivering superior customer service
• Achieving lower cost than rivals
• Having the best-made product on the market
• Using IS to create/support business strategy is the most effective approach creating the most
business value
• Strategic IS systems are by nature hard to replicate just as are good business models
Is provides the best way to determine the competitive force analysis
• Having proprietary manufacturing technology
• Having shorter lead-times in developing and testing new products
• Having a well-known brand name and reputation
• Giving customers more value for their money
• Strategic IS systems are typically custom built and are integrated to support the business
strategy GFC can made their strategy by following them

Final Recommendations
In final GFC Fans should introduce a new product
1) “A Rechargeable Fan should be introduced”
2) “A IS System should be availed in Managerial, Operational & Strategically level “
3) “One time one thing Focus on Fans industry”
We examined earlier the weak ness’s of the GFC fans to overcome these weakness like
On managerial level there is no proper way to find out the problems.
Weak managerial staff
No check and balance on the piracy of fans
Implication of information system is poor.
The strategy planning is not so affective.
So the IS system can overcome these problems by identifying the levels of the organizations.

2) One Time One Thing (Separates the departments)
GFC industries are producing fans , Washing machines and copper wires
Air coolers , etc that thing deviate the concentration so all the department should be separate
their should not any link between them in that way they can easily judge the position of the
Fans , Washing Machines , Air Coolers etc but if they treated at the same time by same person
then the confusion must be arise. The each should hold by the expert of that trade.
Risks
If these departments treated separately then the cost of men power and utilities shall be on
creases which will decrease the profit rate of the company

Here is a cataloged Description for rechargeable Fans
Key Factors
If a company wants to make this product valuable and famous in the market they have to follow
the these factors which are essential and should be kept in mind while introducing the new product
Followings are the Key Factor to Achieve the Target/ Strategy
• Achieving lower cost than rivals
• Having the best-made product on the market
• Product should be of top quality
Syndicate 81
• Delivering superior customer service
• Having proprietary manufacturing technology
• Having shorter lead-times in developing and testing new products
• Having a well-known brand name and reputation
• Giving customers more value for their money
To make this thought they should not hesitate to take help from overseas industries
Like Modern fans is a company who took the first step in the revolutionary fans
GFC fans no need to have a extra new resources they have great technology to produce such
technology
Tangible and Intangible Benefits of the chosen Plan
Why we chose them as Final Recommendations ?
1) In the current situation of Pakistan the electricity is the big problem for Government and
People. The temperature of the Pakistan is very warm. The load shedding is the routine thing
people die due to warmness. When WAPDA turns off the light its becomes the hell for the people
.Those who have good financial position they purchase the Power supply generators which
average cost 20000 Rupees which an ordinary person cannot afford.
So, ordinary person suffers a lot there is a need for Rechargeable fan which
Syndicate 81
Can perfume the duty minimum 2 or 3 hours to make the comfort the ordinary as well as extra
ordinary person because that will be very useful thing.
Most importantly that is the need of the people if you say somebody there is a charge able fan in
the market people will run to market to purchase this fan because the warmness is
unbearable .And a chargeable fan may afford all class of people .That is the need of every home,
office, Bazaar etc
That is very effective product in the Pakistan it best fits in the current situation where electricity
becomes the unique thing it needs to store in such a chargeable fan by the people to feel comfort
from the warmful atmosphere of Pakistan not in Pakistan it can be used in the overseas market as
well like in Africa, Dubai, Saudi Arabia the temperature is to high. But question Aries’s for that
there is no problem of electricity then why they need this product? Good question, for example:
you can use sugar can to Eat or to hit.
They can use this product on outdoor programs like Picnics, can be use to cook Barbie Qs food
which people of Arab like to cook in the deserts. They can keep them with them while going on
the picnic spots. There is a lot of benefit for this improvisation but the only requirement to make
this product is quality. It should have a good quality product to go on the top other wise that will
flop. The consistency, performance & better researches are required in the production of these
fans GFC fan who is the best with the technology can maintain its quality CEO Mr. Ilyas is
technical engineer mind he can make this product .That will increase the goodwill of the industry
at all the levels that they produced some unique thing. In that way the GFC Fans can make their
Syndicate 81
monopoly until any other firm stole their idea of rechargeable fan. That is the great opportunity
for them for being unique.
Future Recommendations
GFC Fans is the well established company they are good with
technology but they are not so efficient with external environment and
managerial, operational and strategic levels. Most importantly the
research department is progress is very low. They should spend
more investment in that department that is a risk taking thing but their regards is beneficial for
company as we all their customers.
In our visit of GFC Fans the a big thing which we feel is missing is that Research
There is no proper research going on there. They only tends to produce the fans on old school of
thoughts the new school of thoughts is totally neglected they should work on these areas
. We recommend them to assistance in that department they should take foreign collaboration.
They should make a Alliance with another firm Modern Fans (Canada).
This company is very good with research and innovations some highlighted achievements of that
company is given blow GFC Fans should adopt their strategy of innovation in the future I am
hardly recommending this for GFC Fans .
I wish them I and my team would be looking forward your firm in the next year a following
qualities
Best Research Center
Syndicate 81
Best IS system implementation
Focused apart from other products on the Fans industry
GFC IN FUTURE MAY PRODUCE THESE FANS IN PAKSITAN
So where do fans go from here?
magine the fan of the future. Here are some of the features he sees on the horizon.
With their bird's-eye view, ceiling fans will make ideal housing for the home's security devices,
including smoke detectors and burglar arms.
Fans work by evaporative cooling, so they're really only effective when people are present.
Proximity sensors will keep the units whirling only when the room is occupied.
Outdoor fans are increasingly popular. The next step: built-in insect repellents. Coatings on the
bulbs will react with a fan's fluorescent light to produce the repellent.
Fan lighting will continue to get more sophisticated. In one scenario, fluorescents provide ambient
light, while pinpoint LEDs accent a piece of artwork.
Fans are efficient, but the government wants better. Aerodynamic arched blades, made from
lightweight graphite, will push more air using fewer watts, in accordance with the EPA's ever-
tightening energy specifications.

Conclusion
That was the great opportunity for us to learn something about the business field.
In a visit of GFC they were cooperative with us. We are especially thankful to their CEO
Mr. Ilyas who appreciate our views.
A Forman for production was very active person he hold their fans department
efficiently he told us that GFC Fans daily production is 2000 fans at one shift
You can imagine the production rate and demand of that product through there
productions. They give there product at cheap rates with high quality and guaranteed.
They machinery is excellent the wire used in production of the fans manufactured by the
GFC by himself. The electric sheet is use in product of fans.
We took a product GFC fans in the whole market because of our interest in that industry.
The entire project and discussions are well organized and proper treated separately in
detail.
Syndicate 81
GFC Fan is a product which is famous not only in the Pakistan but in overseas market as
well in the overseas market they have a great technology, Engineers
And leader. They are not far above from their competitors the Royal fans is also a very
good name in quality product. The only thing which we were missed a lot in all the Fans
industry of GFC is Innovation they are not progressing in that department. They need to
work in this department. Their strategic and managerial staff is not highly educated they
should higher the professional skilled people for this department.
The GFC fans industry is a big name in Pakistan but they have to change their strategy
to be a big in world we give them the new thought in production of fans
And implication of IS in the industry for better results.
The GFC fan production is more then any other company. There men power is also
ahead. Overall all the analysis said that this is a good company with some weakness. But
these weaknesses are not a worse for them but if they try to improve their weakness they
can be Rock in the world
GFC Fans accepts that our visit will encourage them and our ideas are good they said we
will work on them in the near future. That industry is no doubt the proud of the Pakistan
because its progress and achievement is not a slave of any foreign collaboration they
made progression by their own self. We conclude after having the market visit and GFC
visit, GFC Fans are best in Pakistan & Can be Best in the world if they work on the
Syndicate 81
strategy given by our team. If they follow our idea and strategies they might be can
improve their self a lot of our best wishes are with them
