Examples
Primary
My talking book!
CEIP San Sebastián El Boalo. Marta Cervera
Let’s interview them!
Draw a self-portrait!
Why is the activity effective? There is an emotional experience.
Students are protagonists.
They show (and see for themselves) what they’ve learned. They feel competent.
They will want to watch each other’s videos
Students can learn from each other!
Morfo
What apps can we use?
The Three Little Pigs
How does it work? • Students create an avatar
using a picture of themselves.
• SS add features to transform into one of the three little pigs of the big bad wolf.
• SS use those pictures to record themselves as the characters.
Animal Face Chatterpix Kids
Other teaching ideas: storytelling
Choose your dream destination
Go there with Google Earth and take a screenshot
Do reseach about your destination
Make a tellagami describing your destination and why you want to go there
Watch your classmates’ work and learn about different places!
Teaching ideas: Describe a place
Use video!
Let them be viewers….
And actors, directors, screenwriters…
Some tools for video projects
Teaching ideas(Auto)biographical stories, book trailer videos, video timelines, role-plays, interviews, TV programs, presentations, etc.
• Parents can see what their children are doing (=sharing)
• SS prepare the script, check and correct each other (=grammar, vocabulary, peer correction)
• SS rehearse (=practice!)• Intercultural awareness (=topic)• Competition: motivation to win (=better
performance, trying)
Benefits
Secondary
Rapping
Similar tools / apps
Text-to-Speech (Windows)
Google Text-to-Speech (Android)
Voice Generator (IOs)
Natural Reader (IOs)
Who lives there?
New Vocabulary Vocab from unit Describing
Podcasts
Benefits

Listen to other podcasts
Vocabulary (100 word challenge), grammar, pronunciation, intonation
Reviewing a school performance
Teaching ideas

• T records instructions• Today is April’s Fools Day. SS have to give original excuses for not doing their homework.
• SS listen to their peers and make comments• Parents can also listen to them!
Some apps / tools for podcasts
Primary & Secondary
Conversations around media
Lesson• SS give a guided tour of the
school from a birds eye view picture of the school grounds (describe different parts of the school, verbally elaborate and adding extra details).
• They put into practice what they’ve learned about the school in previous lessons.
• The video is put on the TVs at the entrance to the school for all visitors to see.
Guided Tour of the school
What tools can we use?
Voice Thread
Teaching idea: T uploads images of a place and have the class suggest what they think it is (describing, places, inferring)
Other teaching ideas?• Descriptions: family, house, describe your friend’s face, describe your
favorite food, an experiment, a process (circulatory system, water cycle, etc.), a graph, make comparisons, etc.
• Upload a problem or questions around a topic.• Upload an artwork (famous or created by the SS): identify the author,
describe key features, etc. They can annotate and label it.• View and discuss a video clip.• Error correction activity: upload common errors taken from their
writings. They comment on the errors.• Upload images of people. SS comment on what the characters might
be saying (prediction, inferring)• Create digital portfolios of the students’ learning. Example.• Talking postcards or talking photo albums

Final Thoughts
Be aware of new trends
Always have a contingency plan
Use technology if…1) You have a clearly defined task and a clearly
defined time frame in which to achieve the task.2) You are going to tell your SS why you are using it
and what for.3) You don’t use it for technology’s sake (vs. How is
this tool going to help my students learn?).4) You are not afraid that your SS teach you.5) You start small. Don’t try to integrate many digital
tools at once!
Thank you!
