First United Methodist Church Purpose: As believers in Christ as the Son of God, and the Bible as the inspired word of God, we:
Glorify God through worship,
Build strong relationships in the church family,
Grow in the knowledge of the truth as revealed through Jesus Christ,
Serve people as a reflection of the love of Jesus Christ, and
Spread the Good News of the Gospel so that others may come to salvation through grace.

This Week’s Message: Worldly vs. Spiritual
Satan is busy trying to blind us to a spiritual
worldview and striving to get us to accept the
worldview that is opposed to God’s will. Let’s
examine our worldview vs. the worlds view.
Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:1-13
Next Week’s Message: Brokeness-Kim Carr, District Lay Leader
Who is your healer? We will talk about the brokeness in our
lives, whether physical, emotionally, spirityally. How do we handle
it? How do we recover from it? How do we fix it? I will be
emphasizing that the value of our brokeness can be a blessing.
That Jesus is our ultimate healer and how through that healing we
can draw closer to God.
Scripture: Isaiah 41:10; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Burke or Carol Fisher- Creek if you
Together we are stronger. There is so much we can accomplish when we come together in Christ’s name. So, consider ways in which you would like to get connected with your church family and with our community. Watch this section for ways to get connected! Hope everyone enjoyed our Worship Together last Sunday!
Can you?
Decorate your ‘trunk’ and join us on the church parking lot as we greet our community and hand out treats at Laurel’s Halloween Parade? Supply bags of candy to hand out? Thursday, October 25 6-8pm.
Join the planning team to honor Mr. Miles (from Miles Meat Market) for his decades of support to our church and our community? Contribute toward our gift to Mr. Miles (a weekend away – well-deserved after 38 years on Main Street!)
Invite a friend, family member, co-worker to join you as we live-stream Joyce Meyer October 25-27?
Mark your calendar for the Ham Luncheon Saturday, November 3rd !
Bring canned soup (chunky, progresso), canned meats, canned vegetables (no green beans), canned fruits, canned beans for the Day Resource Center? You can put them in the bin near the fountain.
Nobody can do everything,
but everyone can do something!
Interested? For more information on these and other possible ways to get connected at First Church, please see Debbi Schneider or email ( com@fumcl.org or deborahjschneider@yahoo.com).
Together, through Christ,
we can accomplish amazing things!

Moving on Ministries is a resource for anyone who has lost a loved
one and has questions about their mourning. This grief ministry takes 2
forms. One is the Care Notes for kids, teens and adults that are on the table
in the Narthex for anyone to take to read. You can return them or pass them
on to someone you believe would benefit from reading them. I try to put out
subjects that our world is struggling with.
The second part is a series of books called “Journey through Grief” that I mail out
to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one. The 4 books are sent out within a
year after the death and can be reread as many times as needed. There is no time table
for grief or a to-do list of what should be done.
It’s a journey, not a race, and everyone grieves differently.
I also put fliers out in the Narthex about a support group offered during the year for
the loss of a spouse—The Patuxent Widowed Persons Service. I can recommend
them highly as a group that helped me immensely.
If you have any questions about the Moving On Ministries, or its resources, please
call me. Thank you. Lois Hamilton
