Search Summary

Microsoft SharePoint Search is a large product and can ensure your users are able to find content.

• Search doesn’t have to be planned out day 1 – but your content should be.

• Use Web Analytics Reports to review search and make adjustments as the users needs change.

• Ensure the search architecture is capable and redundant. Have your front end servers (WFEs) also act as query servers and have an application server(s) perform indexing functions.

• Be mindful of search database size, if you are going to index file systems, Lotus Notes, or other external content.

• Place search on separate storage if available to ensure optimal performance.

• Review search error logs (Central Administration) periodically to ensure content is crawled successfully.
