Final Presentation

Hololens Group 12/9/2016

Nathan Dunkelberger, Riya Santra, Michael Sanguino, Onur Erdemir

Introduction •  Goal: We are exploring augmented reality as an

alternative to standard practices to better engage the user during rehabilitation

•  Standard practices often involve very repetitive motions which discourages patients to perform the exercises

•  Using augmented or virtual reality can make the exercises seem more real or give them meaning

Augmented Reality •  Augmented reality enhances experiences by adding

virtual components such as digital images, graphics, or sensations as a new layer of interaction with the real world.

Programs Used Initial

•  Visual Studio •  Hololens Emulator •  Unity

Object Creation •  SolidWorks

Microsoft Hololens •  Holographic computer built into a headset that lets you

see, hear, and interact with holograms within an environment such as a living room or an office space

•  The HoloLens comes with semitransparent holographic lenses and uses the real world as a canvas on which to overlay virtual elements.

Current Work •  Create a game that engages motions helpful for stroke

rehabilitation – Intuitive user interface – Use range of motion helpful in stroke rehabilitation – Provide feedback to the user

First Game Concept

Simple Demo

Demonstration

New Game •  Improvements:

–  Imported table from Solidworks –  Wider range of motion used –  Cube instead of ball –  Trigger on shelf as game objective

Solidworks •  Items can be imported from Solidworks saved as a .obj

–  Allows us to use more complex objects –  Unity only provides basic shapes: spheres, cubes, etc

Unity Representation

Collider

Spatial Mapping

Respawn Object

Livestream •  We can livestream from the hololens to demonstrate our

new program

Further Work •  User specified location of the table •  Implementing the rest of the triggers •  Color coordinate the game •  Experimenting with different game ideas to engage the

user and provide satisfactory range of motion
