Fashion Through the Ages!

Fashion is a growing and changing

Throughout decades, centuries, even daily

Trends change like the seasons in the year

Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring

As the seasons fade so do our fashion trends

Here’s a close look at fashion throughout our decades

Starting back at the 20’s

The 1920’s is when we start seeing fashion emerging in the modern era

This era is when both men and women abandoned their restricting clothing

Which is where the term the “roaring twenties” emerged

Women wore shorter skirts and flapper outfits

Men began to wear more athletic attire or more casual suits

The 30’s began a tragic time for fashion

Fashion of the 1930’s was greatly influenced by the Wall Street Crash leading into the great depression

Fashion took a toll on most

Clothing was patched and mended

Women were also learning how to sew to reduce the costs of spending on clothing

Most think of the 30’s as an old Hollywood fashion

Hemlines were dropped to the ankle for the women and necklines lowered for elegant dresses

For men most began to disgard their undershirts to have the chest shown

Men also started wearing large plaids, and single breasted jackets

In the 1940’s because of the war we began to see fashion move away from fabulous dressing

The government actually asked designers to not be wasteful and use unnecessary amounts of fabric on clothing

Because of the war and men being away fashion trends actually took a stand still

This was the time where you saw the Iconic Rosie the Riveter

Along with the slogan “We can do it”

Because men were at war woman’s clothing became much more functional so they could work in such clothing

After the war was over we designers took a new spin on clothing for women and men of the 50’s

Woman’s clothing became much more tight fitting and this is where the idea of the silhouette came in the picture

This style of dress was given the name of the wiggle

Men in the 50’s were leather jackets, loose fitting shirts, cuffed pants, and a style of bowling shoes

Moving onto the 60’s is where we broke many iconic fashion trends

The 60’s is where we dropped traditional fashion trends that emerged from previous decades

This is where the bikini started for the girls, and women

The 60’s also was popular for the PVC dresses (box shaped dresses) and the Go Go Boots

This was also the time for both men and women to be dressing in mismatching prints

Highlighter colors, and psychedelic prints

This also was a leading decade for both men and women to start the bell bottom pants trends

Bell Bottoms, tie die, mini skirts, and the androgynous hippie look means were headed to the trends of the 70’s!

This popular iconic decade was highly known for platform shoes and the “Disco Look”

Popular in the 70’s for women were rayon or jersey wrap dresses

Popular for men were the three piece suits which included a matching vest underneath

Flared pants were worn by both men and women along with plaids, and outrageous colors

This hippie fashion struck our nation emphasizing our music cultured lives

80’s fashion was known as “the time that fashion forgot”

Although many of these crimes we call fashion are hitting the mainstream again

80’s fashions brought a new light to the acid wash denim jeans

Skinny jeans hit the fashion world in the 80’s along with high rise pants

For both women and men bright neon colors were about the most popular fashion trend

Wearing oversized sweat apparel with leggings and or leg warmers for women

Men also based a lot of their fashion around work out clothing and or sweat bands

Graphic tees became popular with their 80’s rock bands

From the 90’s and up to our current decade we are starting to see these fashion trends come back into our everyday lives

Current trends all have bits and pieces from the 20’s through the 80’s

Personally I wouldn’t say that we currently have a specific trend but more so a blend of our generations

The past makes up our generations current fashion to unite a new fashion!
