4. 4. HomeworkHomeworkAn approximate guide to the amount of homework is as follows: - Year 3 - 20/30 minutes, Year 4 - 30 minutes and
Year 5 and 6 - 40 minutes.
It is not possible to set work which will take each child an equal amount of time, however, if you find that an
excessive amount of time is consistently being spent on homework, then please contact your child’s form teacher.
Each child in the Preparatory School has a homework diary in which he or she should enter the work set each
night. This should be signed by parents at the end of the week. The diary is an important line of communication
between home and school and should be checked on a daily basis by parents.
5. 5. CorrespondenceCorrespondenceand Interviewsand InterviewsMatters of a social or domestic nature should generally be addressed to the Headmaster. Any problems related to
work should be directed to the form teacher in the first instance. Interviews may be arranged by appointment.

before. Parents’ evenings are arranged as follows:

Years 3, 4 and 5 will include a comment about your child’s examination performance as well as giving the

8. 8. MusicMusicThe LES Music School occupies its own state-of-the-art building in the centre of the Loughborough Endowed
Schools’ campus. It is an outstanding facility comprising four classrooms, two ICT suites, twenty-two individual
teaching studios and a 120 seat recital hall with a control/recording studio.
The department serves all three schools and is currently home to 7 academic staff, 6 administrative staff
and 26 individual instrumental tutors.
All classes at Fairfield receive class music lessons from a specialist teacher as well as a wealth of opportunities
for singing and playing. A Kodaly-based approach introduced recently into the Pre-Prep classes aims to lay firm
musical foundations and build upon this as our pupils progress through the key-stages. A strong emphasis on
making music pervades the curriculum. Pupils from all years have regular opportunities for performance in school
events and concerts.
Fairfield pupils have the opportunity to join an orchestra or wind band, play in one of the numerous
smaller instrumental ensembles or to sing in one of our four choirs. There is also a Composers’ club
as well as extra training and tuition available in theory of music and aural. Many of our pupils have been
awarded music scholarships at such schools as Loughborough Grammar, Loughborough High,
Leicester Grammar, Oakham and Oundle as well as gaining places in youth orchestras and bands at
national level.

The Burton Choristers was established in 2010 to provide opportunity for those boys with unchanged voices in
Years 5 and 6 at Fairfield, and Years 6 to 9 at Loughborough Grammar School, who demonstrate good musical
potential as well as a strong singing voice. The choristers have sung at a Leicester Tigers game, for LOROS at
Leicester Cathedral and for BBC Radio Leicester. In 2011 the choir will tour the Netherlands.
Our website www.lesmusic.org contains useful information regarding what we offer at the LES Music School as
well as details of our upcoming events. Alternatively, if you would like any further information regarding music at
Fairfield please make an appointment to see our Head of Junior Music, Mrs Angela McGee.
