“Other lms have done a great job of showing us the problem. We

wanted ‘Deep Green’ to be about solutions. The best way to stop

man-made global warming, at every level, is to nd out who and

what is the best at xing it all over the world, and then share it. And

that’s what we did for two and a half years in nine countries.”

– Matt Briggs, producer / director

How bad is it?According to the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (comprised of scientists from around the world),if carbon emissions are not slashed by 40% to 70% in the next 15 years, life as we know it will be over within this century.

"We know that 75% of global warming is the direct result of human activity—and we know how to x it. The fact is, we can't wait to nd out if there will be an international treaty next year, or if Congress will nally enact the legislation that is desperately needed. It really comes down to what each person and each community can do,” says Briggs—an ear-ly advocate of renewable energy who spent over a decade researching every aspect of global warm-ing before shooting a single frame of this award-winning lm.

What can be done?

calls ‘Deep Green’ ‘atemplate” for getting

off fossil fuels.

“‘Deep Green’is no ordinary

exploration of the climate

crisis.”

“There are a lot of global-warming/climate-change documentaries out there, the biggest of course being ‘An Inconvenient Truth’—and until now all have pre-sented the same ratio of doomsday-scenarios vs. planet-saving solutions: about nine to one. A necessary message, but an awfully depressing one at times. ‘Deep Green’ ips this ratio, oering hope instead of despair. Matthew Briggs’ assured, informative and aesthetically pleasing debut documentary goes all over the world to show the ingenious solutions being devised right now to get humanity o fossil-fuel consumption and reduce civilization’s carbon footprint.”

“There’s a growing buzz surrounding ‘DEEP GREEN’—a film that takes a positive approach instead of leavingus scared senseless...”

ORGANIC CONNECTIONS

EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD“’Deep Green’ started as a weekend project — a short lm about one man’s attempt to live more sustainably by reducing his energy use at home. More than three years and $2.5 million later, it’s a 90-minute documentary with a global story to tell. Matt Briggs, a Lake Oswego mushroom picker who founded the wild mushroom wholesale company Cascade Trading, wrote, directed and produced the documentary. He was inspired not by the gloom and doom that accompanies any close look at climate change science, but by the big and small changes occurring around the world as governments, businesses, nonprot groups and individuals have developed solutions to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases on the planet.”

‘DEEP GREEN’ was filmed on a Sony 900R HD camera system by award-winning National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC and “60 Minutes” cinematographers.

The production traveled to nine countries—China, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Spain, and the Netherlands—on an epic quest for the best solutions now and in development.

‘DEEP GREEN’ was the first American productionto be given behind-the-scenes access to China's burgeoning green revolution, where it filmed for over two months.

We also journey to France for a close-upof Alstom’s 224-mph high-speed trains with a carbon footprint 4-5 times less thanan airplane.

In Sweden, we drop into “the greenest cityin Europe” to hear their secrets.

We listen in on a town hall meeting in Marburg, Germany–a community like many others that is grappling with wanting to do the right thing, but concerned about how to pay for it.

In Germany and Spain, we’re given a preview of the mind-boggling Project DESERTEC—a super-sized smart grid to supply diverse renewable energies to all of Europe and North Africa.

“Deep Green’s” stories are filled with startling revelations and fascinating facts—such as...• 50% of all U.S. energy is consumed by our building• Cement is the number one emitter of CO2 acrossthe entire built environment• Switching to white roofs could eliminate one billion tons of carbon per year• How we move from place to place is 20% of ourcarbon footprint•The way we produce our food contributes as muchas a third of the greenhouse gases that we have to deal with.

“Deep Green” also features three award-winning animations from the world-class BENT IMAGE LAB studios.

Scene from“THE KRILL IS GONE”

The Krill Is Gone Companion animated short voiced by SpongeBob's Tom Kenny and Jill Talley. Features a hilarious cast of marine creatures to illustrate how acidity from CO2 is destroying the ocean’s fragile ecosystems.

Trees Also voiced by SpongeBob’s Tom Kenny and Jill Talley, this clever animated short features. To leafy green collar guys who warn assess your trees change the way it rains - resulting in less oxygen and lots more CO2.

Greenagraphics These rib tickling vignettes by Paris born-animator Pascal Campion illustrate easy ways to reduce your own carbon footprint.
