“Other films have done a great job of showing us the problem. We wanted ‘Deep Green’ to be about solutions. The best way to stop man-made global warming, at every level, is to find out who and what is the best at fixing it all over the world, and then share it. And that’s what we did for two and a half years in nine countries.” – Matt Briggs, producer / director

“Other lms have done a great job of showing us the problem. We

wanted ‘Deep Green’ to be about solutions. The best way to stop

man-made global warming, at every level, is to nd out who and

what is the best at xing it all over the world, and then share it. And

that’s what we did for two and a half years in nine countries.”

How bad is it?According to the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (comprised of scientists from around the world),if carbon emissions are not slashed by 40% to 70% in the next 15 years, life as we know it will be over within this century.

"We know that 75% of global warming is the direct result of human activity—and we know how to x it. The fact is, we can't wait to nd out if there will be an international treaty next year, or if Congress will nally enact the legislation that is desperately needed. It really comes down to what each person and each community can do,” says Briggs—an ear-ly advocate of renewable energy who spent over a decade researching every aspect of global warm-ing before shooting a single frame of this award-winning lm.

What can be done?

“There are a lot of global-warming/climate-change documentaries out there, the biggest of course being ‘An Inconvenient Truth’—and until now all have pre-sented the same ratio of doomsday-scenarios vs. planet-saving solutions: about nine to one. A necessary message, but an awfully depressing one at times. ‘Deep Green’ ips this ratio, oering hope instead of despair. Matthew Briggs’ assured, informative and aesthetically pleasing debut documentary goes all over the world to show the ingenious solutions being devised right now to get humanity o fossil-fuel consumption and reduce civilization’s carbon footprint.”

EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD“’Deep Green’ started as a weekend project — a short lm about one man’s attempt to live more sustainably by reducing his energy use at home. More than three years and $2.5 million later, it’s a 90-minute documentary with a global story to tell. Matt Briggs, a Lake Oswego mushroom picker who founded the wild mushroom wholesale company Cascade Trading, wrote, directed and produced the documentary. He was inspired not by the gloom and doom that accompanies any close look at climate change science, but by the big and small changes occurring around the world as governments, businesses, nonprot groups and individuals have developed solutions to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases on the planet.”
