Talking about the future with the present continuous

Present Tense : To Be• I am• You are• He is• We are• They are

Present Continuous Verb: To Go

I am going…..You are going….He is going…We are going…They are going….

What about questions about the future?

Inverse auxiliary verb of: to be + going

• Future tense example: You are Are you going= Are you going to a baseball game this weekend?

So……form is….• Be going to + verb

Example verb: to danceI am going to dance tonight.

You can use to be going as the present continuous to talk about future plans.

Example: What is she doing on Sunday? She’s going to a golf tournament.

• Present Continuous is used because it’s use extends into the future.

You can also use the verb “Will” to talk about the Simple Future.

• Form: [will + verb]

• Examples:

• You will help him later.• Will you help him later?• You will not help him later.

• Complete the worksheet.

Baseball!• Imagine, in the future, you are a baseball

player.

We are going to go to the baseball field….

There, you will warm up with your team…..

Imagine…..you are running around… getting ready for the game.

Then the game is going to begin. And it is your turn to bat.

Imagine…..a pitcher is throwing a fastball at you.

You’re going to swing your bat, hitting the baseball. And then your going to score a “Home Run.”

You are waving to the crowd as you round the bases.
