CATS IN CULTURE

Cats have accompanied our civilization for 9500 years. Worshiped, deified, though sometimes damned. How did they

make their way into today’s culture?

CULTURAL HERITAGE WITH PAWS

ANCIENT EGYPT

Cats considered sacred animals, the cult of the goddess Bastet lasted till year 390 A.D.

ANCIENT CHINA

Favorite animals of the Song Dynasty, spoiled by their owners.

ANCIENT JAPAN

Cats are a symbol of happiness, as exemplified by figures Maneki-neko.

RENAISSANCE

Through the Middle Ages purring felines were associated with witchcraft. Cat are back in business in Renaissance thanks to first examples of catcontent such as “Puss in Boots”.

XIX CENTURY

The real birth of modern catcontent as we know it is dated back to the 1800’s. Henry Pointer created 200 pictures with something which can be described simply as “funny cats”.

MODERN TIMES

Internet rules modern culture, but who rules the Internet?

Cats, of course.

CATS ON INTERNET

When Sir Tim Berners-Lee was asked recently what surprised him the most after 25 years of his extraordinary invention, the World Wide Web, he replied:

“I never thought there would be so many cats.”

CATS IN ADS

Cats have been protagonists of ads before the creation of the Internet. Before they became meme, they were cute felines that

lured consumers into stores.

The grey matter in cats' brains share intense similarities to ours, proving that cats feel emotions that are very similar to people's.

Cats' expressions of happiness, excitement, anger, playfulness, and surprise are all relatable and personalized emotions we connect with.

CATS PROJECT HUMAN EMOTIONS

Emotional connections towards a brand have a direct link to sales. The only way to earn these connections is by strategic yet bold messaging.

The popularity of cats online is so much so they rule the internet. When you place cats in a position to project a positive feeling towards your brand, you’ve pretty much hit the jackpot.

CATS CREATE EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS TO BRANDS

Cravendale was one of the first brands to use cats as an advertising tactic, using them for their “Cats have Thumbs” viral ad, which has since seen more than 7.5 million plays on YouTube.

Following its release, there was:

- 10% increase in brand awareness -- 8% increase in sales

CATS CAN REALLY INCREASE SALES

The popularity of one British Shorthair cat was so big that it helped spur the creation of one of the most popular websites in the world, Cheezburger.com. The site has raised more than $32 million dollars from investors and it pulls in 3.6 million monthly readers.

If you want to reach young people quickly, you need to know your memes. If you want to know your memes, you need to know cats.

CAN HELP TO INTRODUCE YOUR BRAND TO MILLENIALS

Because cats are cute, fun, untrained and unexpected, use them for viral video and viral media campaign. And because they have a kind of human behavior, we use them for creating memes.

According to the site KnowYourMeme, cats represent more than 500,000 results and dogs only 28,000: cats are creating 18 times more memes than dogs.

CATS ARE MORE LIKELY TO GO VIRAL
