What is she the goddess of?

Diana is the goddess of woodlands, wild animals, hunting, light and fertility.

Animals

Dogs, guinea fowl, elephant, horses, bear, dove, deer, and bee.

City

The main sites of her temple are Brauron(which is right outside of Athens) and Ephesus(which

is in Turkey.

Objects

A symbol that is usually associated with Diana is a lunar crescent on her forehead.

Also her hounds and her bow are associated with her; she used them to hunt.

Greek/ Roman Names

Diana is her Roman name and Artemis is her Greek name.

Relationships

Diana was the twin sister of Apollo. Her parents were Zeus and Leto.

She doesn’t have a husband; she travels with other maidens of the forest.

Myths

Dislikes men, whom she sometimes orders torn apart if they see her bathing. Opposes the institution of marriage and the subsequent

loss of freedom it entails for women.

In the Roman language the name Diana became the word “zana” which means “fairy”.
