DESIGN A GOOD RESUMEhedgehog wants you to

Remember CRAP!

• Contrast• Repetition• Alignment• Proximity

Use strong CONTRAST

Use REPETITIONfor a clear visual hierarchy.

Good ALIGNMENThelps draw the reader’s eye.

Attention to PROXIMITY means that related things are grouped together.

The most important information should be at the TOP and to the LEFT.

COMMON RESUME DESIGN MISTAKES

1. TOO BORING.- Average in appearance suggests that you are average (Times New Roman

size 12 font = 90% of resumes.) Try Avenir (Mac), Baskerville (Mac), Century Schoolbook, Franklin Gothic, Gill Sans, Garamond.

- Use two fonts: a sans serif for your name/contact info and headings, and a serif for the body text.

2. TOO BUSY.- Too many fonts.- Too many typeface styles.- Not enough white space.

3. Aligning everything in the center. NO NO NO

PRO TIP: If you email your resume, save it as a PDF (MS Word: Save As | PDF)
