Diresul® P range: Innovative sulphur dyes with enhanced ecological profi leThe liquid sulphur dyes of the Diresul® P product range are distinctly different from conventional sulphur dyes. Thanks to innovative research by the development team, Clariant has successfully estab-lished a product line that is renowned on the market place for combin-ing an ecological profi le with economics and industrial safety.
Specifi cally, these products are alkaline solutions of reduced sulphur dyes. The dye molecules are solubilized by adding suitable reducers in an alkaline medium. All products are practically sulphide-free (< 0.3%). This very low amount of sulphide prevents the danger of undesirable release of hydrogen sulphide during the acidifi cation. No additional safety precaution is necessary while using Diresul® P dyes. These dyes lend themselves primarily to internal dyeing. They give an intense jet black color, with high coverage and very high light fastness, whilst wastewaters remain clear at all depths. This enables their use in a multitude of applications across the whole range from decor papers up to graphic papers, packaging papers and industrial papers.

PROCESS CHEMICALS
We see ourselves as solution provider. Clariant’s Paper Business strives to understand the problems of our customer in areas where we see our strategic competence adding value. We then work together with the customer to analyze the situation and come up with a specifi c solution to their needs.
Clariant is a leading supplier of cationic polymers for dye fi xation, inkjet application, coated broke treatment and anionic trash control. Our mission is to be ‘the fi xative specialist’!
Over recent years the quality of waste paper has progressively worsened and therefore our main focus in R&D is to fi nd a solution to this challenge.
Cartaspers® rangeThe Cartaspers® range provides solutions for many challenging prob-lems as wire and felt protection and deposit control.
Strength improvementAfter careful system analysis and technological and commercial discussions in the mill we now have the possibility with our Cartabond® range to work out customer/paper grade specifi c solutions on our modern dynamic sheet former in our Reinach Lab.
Fiber activation conceptWith our unique ‘fi ber activation concept’ we have a solution for extremely polluted systems when classical retention systems have reached their limits.
FixativesClariant offers a broad range of fi xatives for many application areas. These fi xatives guarantee deep and brilliant shades, reduce two-sided-ness, improve dyestuff yield and the fastness properties of the dyes.
PERFORMANCE
Cartabond® crosslinkersThe Cartabond® range is an other example of how to add value to paper: these crosslinkers improve the paper surface strength in size press and coating formulations. They reduce the offset printing defects which are caused by a weaker surface strength of the paper when wetted with fountain water.
Cartacoat® RM rheology modifi ersProducing coated paper and board for end-products with a high quality level needs chemicals that really can do the job.
Cartacoat® RM is an exclusive range of rheology modifi ers, which allows control of high shear and low shear viscosity and water reten-tion to achieve superior runnability and optimum coating color rheology. Cartacoat® RM products can be used, for instance, for blade coating or MSP applications with all kinds of paper and board grades.

SURFACE AND COATING
Clariant offers effi cient solutions to enhance the functional proper-ties of all kinds of paper. As an example, the Cartaseal® range is an innovative coating concept providing superior barrier properties to oil, water and water vapor. Papers coated with Cartaseal® can also offer properties such as excellent printability, glueability, heat sealability and temperature resistance. Clariant also offers solutions compliant to FDA and BfR for food-contact paper and board.
Whether the issue is smoothness, softness, gloss, printability or absorbency, the experts at Clariant will fi nd a tailor-made solution to meet your needs.
