SERVE THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES:

For a welded plate girder, however, the curtailment

of flange plate consists in reducing the thickness of

flange plate in proportion to the moments along the

span. At regions where bending moment is less than

that at the critical section, the thickness of plate can

be reduced (curtailed). The minimum section

classification at each such curtailed section,

however, must also be satisfied in addition to the

safety check for bending strength.
