CURRICULUMNCCS 2014-15

WHAT DOES THIS NUMBER REPRESENT?

720

• 720- The number of days with children from K to the end of third grade

• This is the time we have to prepare them to be proficient readers

• Barriers that get in the way of bringing the 720 days down: testing, absences, wasted instructional time, weather, assemblies, sickness, Book Fairs

• Time lost in a normal 90 minutes reading block:• subtract 5 minutes for student movement• subtract 5 minutes for teacher to pull materials• subtract 5 minutes for general interruptions• 15 minutes lost daily or 30 reading blocks per year
