Give a Little Bit

Introducing Trauma Informed Care  CrossOver is very excited to be embarking on clinic-widetrauma informed care integration The word “trauma” isused to describe anevent, experience orsituation that isemotionally painfuland distressing. Theseevents may limit aperson’s ability tocope. Trauma canmanifest in differentways and maycontribute to long termhealth complications. Sadly because of the life situations our patients experiencetrauma at rates much higher than average.  Many of themleft home countries experiencing war, high crime, extremepoverty, and famine.  They leave everything they know tocome to a country with different customs and a languagethey don’t understand.  This further traumatizes people.

Recognizing that traumatic events make people feel unsafeand powerless, trauma-informed practice seeks to createprograms where clients and staff feel safe and empowered.  The Principles of Trauma Informed Care:

SafetyTrustworthinessChoiceCollaborationEmpowermentStrengths-based Approach

It starts with asking someone “what has happened to you”versus “what is wrong with you”. CrossOver is in the early stages of implementation and weare very excited to fine tune and expand Trauma InformedCare until it is completely integrated in to all that we do forour patients.  All types of staff and volunteers will receivetraining.
