Creation MythsAbrahamic Religions

All Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) share the same creation myth. God created the universe and time. He did this in six days. There is no description of what it was like before creation except that it was a “vast void,” and followers of Abraham do not think it’s necessary to look for answers beyond our own creation.

On the first day, God began by creating the universe, but it was a vast void and did not have any shape. Then God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light, and there was night and day.

On the second day, God separated the waters. The water above became the sky, and the water below became the ocean.

On the third day, God created dry land and all kind of plants.

On the fourth day, God created a greater light for the day (the sun) and lesser lights for the night (the moon and the stars).

On the fifth day, God created the creatures of the ocean and birds in the sky, and he commanded them to reproduce.

On the sixth day, God created all of the creatures on land, including man. First he made only man, Adam, and as the story goes, God created Adam in his own image. However, God saw that man needed a companion, so he took a rib from Adam. With that rib, God created a woman, Eve.

Together they populated the Earth which means they made the rest of the humans. There is a seventh day in this myth. It is on the seventh that God became satisfied with his creations and decided to rest.
