A conductor is a material that allows electricity to flow through it. Many metals, such as steel and copper are strong conductors of electricity and are used in power lines.

An insulator is a material that reduces or prevents the flow of electricity. Rubber, plastic, porcelain and glass are often used in the electricity distribution industry as protection from electrical current.
