WHAT TO DO

MATERIALS

First, cut Carnations four inches from the stem at an angle.

Set Carnations aside, and fill up the glasses with a half cup of water.

Color-Changing

Place 20-30 different drops of food coloring into each cup of water.

Now let the flowers sit next to a windowsill for about a day.

After time passes the flowers will be colored. That’s how Nature and Poison Ivy do it!

As the flowers drink up the colored water, the liquid travels up the stems and into the petals. There, the water evaporates, leaving the color dye in the petals behind. This is called transpiration.
