Security and ShelterWhenever students need a minute away from the rest of the class they are able to go the alphabet carpet where they are able to read. They are also able to get a pillow to sit on and read at the science bookshelf. This area is separate and closed off by another shelf.

Social ContactThere is a puzzle rug in the center of the room for whole group lessons, brain breaks, and reading time.

Social ContactThe students’ desks are four tables next to the puzzle carpet. There are six students at each table. This makes it easy for the teacher to see everyone.

Symbolic IdentificationThere are not many if any visual cues in my practicum classroom. There is no behavior management system, or schedule for the students. I can imagine however, that visuals such as the clip chart and daily schedule would help students to manage themselves.

Task InstumentalityThe computers are placed in a corner out of the way of everything. They include headphones so that the children are not distracted by sounds. An extra table where the students hold their small reading groups. The shape of the table helps keep the students focused on the teacher.

PleasureThe classroom is filled with colors, anchor charts, and books. There is a space for everything including the students things. Each student has a hook with their name above them. All of these things make for a very stimulating, and organized classroom.

GrowthAt the ABC carpet students have multiple activities to choose from when given free time or stations. There are several books shelves divided by subject, blocks, math centers, games, and puzzles.
