MAKING A DIFFERENCE

1. What is your name, where do you live and what do you do?

Fernando Ferreiro. I live in Villalba, a town near Madrid, Spain. I´m a freelance illustrator.

2. What are your favourite subjects to draw and why?

Plus models, because they represent what in my opinion the perfect woman is. I love to paint animals too, wildlife, dogs, etc., because I love them and I´m a strong advocate of nature.

3. What would you say is your greatest piece of work?

It is very difficult to decide, but I feel a special appreciation for a drawing called "Man Study," a black man curled up with his face buried in his arms.

4. What would you say is your greatest accomplishment either business or personal?

My greatest personal accomplishment (mine and my wife's) was to adopt our daughter in China. She changed our lives forever. Professionally, perhaps be part of an international team of illustrators who made a series of posters for the Olympic Games in London 2012.

5. What is a typical day for Fernando?

First in the morning (after a hot shower!) I go out with my dog and take my daughter to school. Then I use to go to my wife´s office; she´s the owner of an advertising agency and I have there my digital work space, with a Mac and a Cintiq (a 24 inches touch screen for artists). I work there on my digital commissions. In the afternoon I work at home on my pencil drawings and I help my daughter with homework.

6. What does Fernando love to do in his down time?

I like to go out with my family and our dog. We live in a small town near the mountains and we love walking in the country. I love read too and go to cinema. And I love music. I can’t live without music, classic, country, pop, movie scores, etc.

7. Who or what inspires you?

The beauty inspires me, any kind of beauty. But artistically, I love the classic masters. I have a classical artistic training and I was student in Florence (Italy). And I´m Spanish, I was born in the land of great masters like Velazquez, Zurbaran, Sorolla or Picasso.

8. What are 5 things you could not live without?

Like I said, music is one of them. (I will not say health, money and love.) Coffee, good pencils, books and a dog a dog lying beside me.

9. What makes the perfect woman – to you?

Being a good person makes perfect a woman or a man. Kindness, understanding, sincerity, as that would require a woman to a man. Beauty is important, but it’s only the outside. All of us are more valuable inside.

10. If you could have anyone in the World pose for you, who would it be and why?

You put me in a bind… I can say you a lot of names, Jewels Hay, Gina Swire, Ivory May… But surely would choose Nicole Le Bris. She´s not only one of the most beautiful women on Earth. Thanks to her I found out the plus size models industry. She was my first inspiration and the first model that I portrayed. That would be a priceless privilege.
