CASE STUDY: Commercial Solar Pool Heating SystemThe University of South Florida St. Petersburg is a premier gradutate urban institution recognized for its vibrant community of scholars and its unique setting on Bayboro Harbor.

Heliocol manufactures and distributes the industry’s highest-performing solar products for commercial and residential applications. Founded in 1977, Heliocol maintains its position as the world’s largest manufacturer of solar pool heating systems.

Challenge:To engineer an economic, sustainable method of heating the 3,640-square-foot, outdoor pool at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

Solution:Heliocol designed a system using 3,000 square feet of He-liocol solar pool collectors installed on a flat roof. The aver-age unheated temperature of the pool at the university is 70°F. The average water temperature when heated with the Heliocol solar pool heating system is 84°F.
