Carman Miller, a 71 year-old salesman for Ro-MacLumber & Supply Inc.,won the Florida BuildingMaterial Association’s Pin-nacle Award Sept. 23 dur-ing the 2011 Gulf AtlanticBuilding Products Expo.

This is the first year theFBMA has given the award,which recognizes Florida’stop construction retailsales person.

“I was very humbled. Iappreciated the support ofmy peers and all the peo-ple who voted for me; butit’s not all about me, Iwouldn’t be where I amtoday without the greatcompany that I work for,”Miller said.

Miller works at TheVillages Ro-Mac Lumberlocation and has been withcompany since 1959.

The Pinnacle Award is

designed to recognizesales people who make apositive impact on thebuilding community.

“No one influencesbuilding contractors’ pro-duct decisions more thanthe retail salespeople whoregularly call on them. It isfitting that the salespeoplewho are the heart of theindustry receive the recog-nition they deserve,”FBMA President BillTucker, wrote in an emailto nominees.

Miller was nominated byRo-Mac Store ManagerLewis Duke. Four finalistswere chosen from a dozennominees.

“He is such a hard work-er and a great salesman. Ithink the advantage thathe has over a lot of othersalespeople is his experi-ence. He has earned therespect of a lot of cus-tomers who value his

knowledge and experiencebecause he’s been in thebusiness for so manyyears,” said Duke.

The awards ceremonywas held in conjunctionwith a panel discussionentitled, “People WhoHave Succeeded Discussthe Attributes of a Suc-cessful Sales Person,” inwhich Miller participated.

During his 52 years atRo-Mac, Miller has consis-tently achieved top salesincluding winning the H.D. Robuck, Sr. Founder’sAward, an award given tothe highest-earning salesperson, 14 years in a row;and four Lake CountyHome Builders Associa-tion Spike Awards.

Miller has been marriedto his wife, Menda, for 53years, and they have fourchildren, eight grandchil-dren and one great-grand-child.
