ELDER’S EXPRESS Everyone needs a life's verse. That's what I was told back in 1980 when Steve Nace made the decision to make Jesus Christ the Lord of my life. A life's verse, that one verse in the whole Bible that you choose to model your life after. Fifteen years later, in the summer of 1995, I still hadn't chosen a life's verse. That summer, I was asked to direct kids’ camp at Camp Pamadeva, that of the Tiltin' Hilton. One of the duties as camp director was to lead staff devotions as we began the day. Why I chose Luke 17:5-10 as our focus I'll never know, but it was probably that it was five verses, and we were there five days. The focus of the devotionals was the importance of knowing why we were there for those kids: to give them an opportunity to do what I had done at age 30 fifteen years before. And to encourage the counselors to keep on keeping on no matter how inadequate we were in accomplishing that goal. The last day’s devotional focused on verse 10: "So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do." Unprofitable servants. Wow! No matter what we do, no matter how well we do it, no matter how great our motivation is to do it, it doesn't add one iota to the work Jesus Christ did on the cross. And, there it was, some fifteen years after I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior: my life's verse. It didn't make sense, but it made sense! Do you have a life's verse? If so, follow it with all your heart. If you don't, may we encourage you to find one and purpose in your heart to fulfill it?
It is with excitement and anticipation that we welcome Mike Dellosso and Jeff Eyler to your elder board. Each man brings with him gifts unique and diversified. We have found them to be godly, insightful, knowledgeable, and willing to share their opinions with grace. March 16 and 17 have been set aside for our annual pastor-elder retreat, a time, this year, which will be dedicated to an in depth study on what the Bible says about how the church is to function properly. Our February board meeting was spent reviewing your concerns regarding the maintenance of our facility. It was decided to make window replacement and refurbishing the floor in Boyer Hall our two top priorities in 2018. We also discussed an upgrade to the church's website. The two questions we need to answer before proceeding are:

1) How much do we value it, and 2) How much are we willing to spend? If you have experience in this area, and you sense God's leading to help improve this ministry, your elder board would like to hear from you.
In an effort to keep the fellowship of CBC up to date in our pastoral search process, it is wise to keep in mind that it is the Lord's timing and not ours that is important. Given his druthers, Joshua probably would have stormed the castle at Jericho, at a great cost of life to the children of Israel. But the Lord's timing was not his timing, and after seven days, Jericho was theirs. As we continue formulating the process by which the man the Lord wants to lead CBC, it is the desire of your elder board to "get it right." What appears to be slow and tedious is instead thought out and intentional with the goal of allowing God to give us His man in His timing. With a schedule of godly men within our body filling the pulpit and meeting our spiritual needs, we are modeling the early church by equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. Once the saints are equipped, it is their, YOUR, duty to do the work of the ministry with the result the body of Christ being built up. Ephesians 4:12-13. Until that time that God provides the man He has chosen to lead CBC, this will be our course of action.
It was "kid krazy" month this past February. A huge Calvary thank you to Ashley Lippy, Lauren Osladil, Bev Carpenter and all the adults who contributed to the success of "Star Quest." Superb acting, outstanding music, and God honoring children combined to make this musical one of the best! And, thank you, thank you, thank you to Cindy Strauss, Beth Marland, and their assistants for organizing and coaching the Awana Bible Quizzing team. Kudos to Caleb and Sarah Eyler, Caleb Plett, Josiah Greene, Ian Wolfe and Grant Miller, in abstensia, as they honored God while representing CBC so well!
The month of March is highlighted by our Sportsman's program featuring Dr. Larry Moyer. The purpose of the program is to provide an outreach to Hanover and the surrounding areas with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and throw in a few hunting stories as well. CBC sets aside @ $4,500 for this outreach in the church budget which barely covers the speakers expenses. Based upon the recommendation of the ministry's leaders, the elder board approved a $5 donation at the door to help offset the cost of the prizes offered at the program. This was not intended to be a raffle, but a way of offering attractive prizes to attendees. Our purpose is to reach the Hanover area with the Gospel, and this is one way to reach that goal. Purpose to attend Dr. Moyer's evangelism training seminar, offered during the Sunday School hour on March 11.
We continue to have recruitment needs for our Wednesday night teen group and Awana ministries, The Shepherd's Fold Daycare, and various Sunday morning ministries. Will you be that unprofitable servant?
As always, visit us in the atrium following the Sunday morning service or grab us as we walk throughout the building. If we can pray for you, please let us know. We, too, are unprofitable servants. Allow us to do that which is our duty to do.
Psst. We have a daycare (and you can be involved). Did you know?
The Shepherd’s Fold employs 28 full-time and part-time staff members and has 2 volunteers who care for 96 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
87% of the children enrolled at The Shepherd’s Fold come from families who do not attend Calvary Bible Church.
100% of the staff and volunteers are members at Calvary.
Shelley Mathias and her staff are committed to sharing the love of Jesus with each child they care for and the child’s family. In addition to the daily contact they have, there are many outreach events scheduled throughout the year. They are making an impact on local families!
YOU can be involved in this great ministry and in the work God is doing at The Shepherd’s Fold (TSF).
How to get involved:
Pray: Make a commitment to pray for TSF regularly. Bookmarks are available at TSF’s Activities Table in the foyer to help guide you through effective prayer for the teachers and children.
Donate items: TSF has a running “wish list” of items they need. Some examples are baby dolls, outdoor play equipment (balls, hula hoops, games), books (board books and paperbacks), dress-up clothes (for girls and boys). Gently used or new, please.
Box Tops: TSF is now collecting Box Top labels from General Mills items. Simply cut them out, bring them in to church, and drop them off at the TSF Activities Table in the foyer.
Volunteer: TSF is always looking for helping hands. If you’re interested in volunteering, please talk to Shelley Mathias or Ashley Lippy.
Work there! TSF is looking for someone to fill an assistant’s position. About 30 hours/week. Interested? Contact Ashley Lippy at alippy@cbc-hanover.org
Need more information? Visit TSF’s Activities Table in the foyer or contact Shelley Mathias (smathias@cbc-hanover.org) or Ashley Lippy (alippy@cbc-hanover.org).

Calvary’s Easter Musical
Before God’s awesome display of resurrection power in raising Christ from
the dead, the Savior had to walk a long, lonely road leading to Calvary. It is
on that dark road, through a journey of sorrow and suffering, that Christ
willingly went to the cross. There He died for our sins, paying the ultimate
price to set us free!
Invitations and posters are available at the Music Ministry table.
