BIG Question of the Week “Can you think yourself happy?”

‘The Adventure Awaits…’
Sherwood Spectacular
The Year 5 and 6 Bures Primary Players took to the stage on Monday and Tuesday to sell-out audiences and
showed just why they are considered the hottest new theatre company in town. Stunning performances
from all cast members kept the audience enthralled and delighted. With startling moments of comedy
genius, truly evil baddies and a hero and heroine who shone there was something for everyone! I would like
to thank the children for their fantastic performance, the Year 5 and 6 staff members for eliciting such
great performances, Mrs Whymark for keeping everyone in tune, Mrs Nott, Mrs van Blerk and Mrs Scott
for turning their hand to anything that was needed and finally all the parents who helped children to learn
lines and organised costumes and props. It was a true team effort—after all…
“If we all work together—our dreams will come true.
Together we’re strong and we’re true!“
Early Years and KS1 Arts Summer Concert—’On the Move’
We have been thoroughly spoilt for perfect performances this
week. Just as I was recovering from the Y5 & 6 Extravaganza
along came the Early Years and KS1 classes with their
marvellous ‘On the Move’ concert which delighted us all. How
they managed to learn all those words and actions in such a
short time I have no idea but learn them they did. Thank you
to all the staff team and the children but I know Mrs Wilcox
was the mastermind behind this event and therefore deserves
particular thanks. We all enjoyed the picnic too - thank you
for joining us to make it a truly special event.
Senior Choir
Our Senior Choir were in fantastic voice when
they with the Sudbury Choral Society at St
Peter’s Church in Sudbury on Sunday. The choir
had been thoroughly rehearsed by Mrs Whymark
as usual and Mrs Handley and Miss Moore who
attended on behalf of the school said it was a
magical occasion and their performance brought
a tear to the eye. I am told that Mrs Whymark
performed her solo pieces beautifully too. Well
done and thank you to all!

Collective Worship
Mr Sellens began the week with the exciting sto-
ry of David and Goliath focusing on David’s brav-
ery but also his complete faith that God would
keep him safe.
On Tuesday, Rev Trish talked about Barnabas as
one of the disciples who was well-known for
offering encouragement to those around him. She
asked the children to think about how they might
be able to encourage their own friends and
family.
On Wednesday, we thought about the fact that it
is Armed Forces Day on 30th June. We talked
about what kind of qualities we thought soldiers
needed and then our Reception children
pretended to march round the walls of Jericho as
we learnt the story of Joshua and his army. It
was a very noisy story—you may want to ask your
child why!
Online Safety Alert
We have had two or three incidents in the last
couple of weeks where children have been talking
about some of the games they are playing online. We
fully appreciate that it is difficult to keep track of
everything your children accesses online but we
thought it might be worth highlighting the fact that
there are some quite violent games and images that
can be accessed on ‘Youtube’ and just on the internet
generally which are free and easily reached but which
have incredibly unsuitable content. ’Fortnite—Battle
Royale’, ’Five nights at Freddie’s’, ‘Granny’, ‘Undertale’
and ‘SlenderMan’ are just some of the ones we have
come across.
Once children have accessed one game they are
encouraged by adverts and websites to access others.
It is worth going to the NSPCC online safety website
or www.saferinternet.org.uk to gain further advice
about what is or isn’t appropriate. It is also worth
talking to your children about what they are playing
and encouraging them to show you. Banning them from
devices completely can be counter-productive but
encouraging them to share their online habits can
really make a difference.
We are planning to hold an online safety event for
parents in the Autumn Term.

Nut Free School
The school requests that parents and carers observe
the nut-free policy and therefore do not include nuts,
or any traces of nuts, in packed lunches.
We also ask that any baked good that are kindly
donated for the class cake stalls also do not
contain nuts. Thank you!
PSA News Summer Fair
Don't forget that we will be holding our Summer Fair tomorrow (Saturday 30th June) in the playground
from 12 - 2pm. There will be a huge range of stalls and activities for children and adults to enjoy, as well as
a BBQ, Beer & Pimms stall and another amazing raffle! Everyone welcome - please feel free to bring along
your friends and family. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Smarties for Silver
Please could any remaining Smarties for Silver tubes be returned to the School Office as soon as possible.
We hope to announce the winning class very soon!
Ice Lolly Stall Helpers
If anybody is thinking about getting more involved with the PSA and
would like to help sell ice lollies on a Wednesday afternoon, please
let us know. Email PSA@bures.suffolk.sch.uk or leave a message for
us via the school office. This is a really fun way of helping out and it
only takes 20 minutes of your time! It would be lovely to see some
new volunteers coming forward.

A Trip to Dinosaur Adventureland
On Wednesday, Year 1 and Year 2 went on a trip to
Dinosaur Adventure land. We saw a giant
brachiosaurus—it was taller than all the other
dinosaurs. The pterodactyl had enormous wings. The
T-Rex had big hands and his teeth were 25 cm long!
We had a wonderful day because we saw lots of
dinosaurs and we
found cavemen. We
had to put a stamp
on a map when we
found the dinosaur
stamps. At the end
we got a medal for
finding as many
stamps as we could.
We would like to
thank everyone for
taking us and looking
after us so well. We
had a fun time!
