Bridging IndiaA TISCON READYBUILD CASE STUDY

Project Site: East Delhi

The Background

One of our clients undertook a project to construct a 978 metre long over bridge in the Nandnagari area in order to replace an existing

railway crossing.

This bridge is being built keeping in mind the requirements of ensuring higher standards of safety for citizens, better traffic

monitoring, and enabling the use of the upcoming service roads for access to the nearby Rajiv Gandhi Speciality medical Centre and

GTB Hospital.

Accessibility in over-populated urban areas is always a matter of the highest priority and needs to be attended to with whatever

solutions that can be conceived.

The Specifics

The width of this bridge is 7.5m and provides 2*2 carriageways for vehicles to move in either direction. The customer needed the

project to be completed in exactly a year’s time.

One of the biggest problems that this project faced was posed by space constraints.

This lead the customer to take the decision to use the advanced fully precast concrete deck technology, a first of

its kind in the country, in the construction of this bridge.

The Challenge

Traffic density and overcrowded urban landscape was one of the greatest challenges faced by our client while they were

building this bridge within the stipulated timeframe.

So our client preferred not to set up a Cut and Bend yard in their casting yard.

What they noticed was that their Bar bending schedules of deck slabs were repetitive and conducive for procuring steel in ready-

to-use form.

The question that they were faced with was where to procure such ready-to-use form of

steel so that uninterrupted and quality supplies were assured.

The Tiscon Readybuild Solution

Tiscon Readybuild intervened through several meetings with the client’s representatives to fully comprehend the customers’

requirement and to decide on the methodology of executing the Cut and Bend orders.

In order to maintain effective co-ordination the two companies nominated co-ordinators to clarify the BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) measurement, the due date of

each lot and confirmation on dispatch of materials.

Ensuring close interaction among the client’s team and ours ultimately went on to help the customer obtain delivery of lots as per construction plan in error-free dimensions and also covered incorporation of last-

minute modifications.

Tiscon Readybuild ensured that material was dispatched as a full kit (set wise) for all

structures. All dispatches to the client were prioritised whenever required.

This led the client to source more than 90% of their rebar requirement for the project in ready

to use form.

The Aftermath

The delivery of precise and correct dimensions helped the customer obtain quick approvals from DTTDC which reduced delays in

construction.

There was no requirement to manage offcuts/scrap at the site. Value was created through the assurance of delivery as per construction

plan.

The client was able to double their output of the casting yard for producing precast deck slabs with the help of ready-to-use steel.

Finally the client was able to deliver and complete the project just on time making this project a huge success.
