Born of Imperishable Seed

1 Peter 1:23 – 2:3

Fabiola2011.6.8

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God”.

1 Peter 1:23

For,  “All people are like grass,  and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”

And this is the word that was preached to you

1 Peter 1: 24-25

1Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

1 Peter 2:1

2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

1 Peter 2:2-3

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God”.

1 Peter 1:23

What does it mean to be born again?

It means

1- A person realizes that he/she is a sinner; and that he is lost, blind and naked before God.

2- He realizes that he can’t save himself by doing good deeds.

3- He believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross as a substitute.

4 -For the first time in his life, he asks for God’s forgiveness.

He has repented before God.

5- By an act of faith he acknowledges Jesus Christ as his Lord and one and only Savior.

That is what the Bible means by being ‘born again’.

Is there any sign or proof of

this decision in our lives?

Yes, we are able to LOVE.

How can this

happen?

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

1 Peter 1:23

• True repentance is the door to new birth.• ‘New birth’ is the door to the kingdom of Heaven .

Jesus declared,“I tell you the truth, no-one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

John 3: 3

24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”

And this is the word that was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:24-25

What does Peter mean when he says that: All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall.

Peter compares our lives and the futility of it, with the grass.

Our lives are so short and still we loose our lives struggling for money, the recognition of the people, and their respect as well.

But all these things will vanish so fast….!! Just like the grass withers and the flower falls;

problems will come, money will come and go and so will the people and their recognition.

There’s only one thing that endures forever and that is the “Word of God”.

As Peter said: 25 “But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

And this is the word that was preached to you

1 Peter 1: 25

How is it shown that we are born

again?

So Peter says to all of us who are born again.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

1 Peter 2:1

The seed ofGod is in ourheart now.God put it there

when we repent

and Jesus come

to our hearts.

There is something new in our hearts. It is not ours, it is His and that is the imperishable seed that will grow if we allow it to.

Like a plant when is growing, some things can help it to grow and some others can kill it.

What is Peter’s advice?

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

1 Peter 2:1

God plants the imperishable seed in us, but it is us who have to work together with Him to clean the ground of our heart of all kind of evil things.

And so Peter give us this list Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

1 Peter 2:1

Malice: it is not only to do something bad or evil to somebody, it is also to have the desire to do it.

Deceit: itInvolves

anykind of lies.Lies can’t

bepart of ourlives

anymore.

Hypocrisy: it’s to pretend to be something you are not.

Envy: Is also jealousy. The desire of having Something that is not mine. Or the bad

feeling that appears when I see that somebody has

reached something that I haven’t been able to reach yet.

Slander: False accusation against

someone's reputation. We can call it gossip too.

We have to work to make these things disappear from our lives.

Remember Peter says, because you are born again;

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

1 Peter 2:1

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

1 Peter 2:2

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

1 Peter 2:2

What does a child want?

They want to grow!!

In the same way we should crave for the spiritual knowledge that comes from this book.

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

1 Peter 2:3

Why should we do this?

Because: now you have tasted that the Lord is good.

1 Peter 2:3

He forgave you, cleansed you, and planted inside your heart His nature. He has shown you how good He is.

Now it is time for you to grow and know Him more.
