JudgingThis is important, so pay attention!
Judges take the following into consideration:
Technical ability corresponding to category entered Concept or overall creative approach Art direction and composition Demonstration of skill in the execution of style, make-up and
appropriate wardrobe Harmony between photographer's execution and stylist's creativity Appropriateness of image for concept Amount of photo manipulation used to create the final look Continuity of all images within the entry Understanding of category entered

Create a complete lookthat evokes emotion, reactions, excitement, andpassion within anyone whoobserves them. Push theboundaries of what isaccepted as the norm.Release your creativity!

Participant must be a finalist in a minimum of (1) category, with at least (3) overall entries total. After thiscriteria is met, those entries becomeeligible to be judged as a completecollection of the (3) top scoring workssubmitted by the stylist.

Team of the YearTo be eligible for “Team of the Year, “teams” must consist of two participants employed by the same salon. The “team” must submit a collection of 5 images that tell a story.
Team of the Year Images cannot be entered into any other category just as any other non-team category cannot be entered into Team of the Year.
How to Take a Before Shot• Avoid anything distracting like loud clothing, jewelry, or
makeup• Find a neutral but contrasting wall
• Make sure the model’s hair is dry & their current length,texture & color shows
• Take a couple of images with and without the flash• Shoot vertically, straight on without cropping off the head, with
no smile• Download immediately to be sure the shot will work and
before you start transforming the hair

models with an excessive amount of facial hair

• Use a qualified seasoned makeupartist, if possible.
• Use products (foundation & powder)specifically for on camera use.
• Keep Commercial looks consumer-friendly.
• It’s okay to go for edgy makeup for Artistic categories. Just don’t overpower the hair.
• Be careful once makeup is applied.Have extra powder for touch ups.
Wardrobe• For most commercial categories, go for colors
and necklines that flatter the model, yet contrast the hair.
• Go for solid colors or light textures.
• Avoid busy patterns or distracting decals orlogos.
• Glam up the wardrobe for the Glamourcategory: gowns, wedding dresses, etc.
• Avoid- distracting necklaces, jewelry and pieces that take away from the hair.

Retouching – How Much is Okay?
It’s okay to remove an occasional, single flyaway hairbut the hair should otherwise notbe retouched or filtered.
It’s okay to retouch the skin, remove moles, scars, etc., but itshould still look like skin.
Men and kids should haveminimal retouching.
Too much retouching of the hair,could lead to possible disqualification.

Overcoming Obstacles Don’t color, cut or trim the hair the day of the shoot.
Dark on dark color does not translate the same on cameraas it does to the human eye.
With color, go slightly lighter & brighter than normal.
Practice the finished hairstyle prior to the shoot day,but be ready to roll with it.
Keep finishing work pliable - Don’t overuse product.
