Balun Selection Criteria
• Most important: are the parts in mass production?
• Can a customer purchase 10000 in six weeks time?
• Recommended: Taiyo Yuden FI212C245036T

Voltage Regulators and Power SupplyFor Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Voltage Regulators and Power Supply
• Lithium Ion Polymer battery, 3.7 volts, 130mAh, 0 to 45C charge,-20C to + 60C discharge.
• Lower cost to put the battery protection on the board?
• BlueCore5-Multimedia External contains four regulators. – Switch mode for the main 1.8volt, 200mA, SMP– 3 Linear regulators
• 3 linear regulators– 1.5volt for the digital core and analogue radio, 115mA (low)– 1.5volt for the audio section (audio)– 1.8volt to replace the switch mode regulator, 200mA (high)
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Switch Mode Regulator
• The inductor is the energy storage device. ESR 0.5 to 0.9 • ESR 0.5 ringing, 0.9 poorer efficiency, dropout and transient
response• Recommend ESR 0.7 • Coilcraft ME3220-223KL, 3.2mm x 2.5mm, ESR = 0.787, 580mA,
wire wound• Taiyo Yuden LB2518T220M, 2.5mm x 1.8mm, ESR = 0.77, 220mA,
multilayer

Switch Mode Regulator
• Cell designed to use 4.7μF capacitor for smoothing • VDD_SMPS_CORE provides bias voltage for the control circuit• Switch mode regulator enabled by holding VREGENABLE_H. This
is connected through a push button, PIO line.
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Linear Regulator
• 1.8volt linear regulator unused in this design• 1.8volt SMS provides input to the 1.5volt core regulator, VREGIN_L• 1.5volt regulator enabled by taking VREGENABLE_L high to
1.8volts• 1.5Volt core regulator requires 2.2μF as a minimum for stability with
ESR > 2, hence the use of the 2.2Ω resistor• Note 1.5μF provides only 10° of phase margin. This is insufficient.
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Linear Regulator
• Omission of 2.2Ω and 2.2μF will cause frequency drift issues
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Supply Pins
• AIO pins are supplied internally by VDD_ANA rail• 5 x 1.8 volts VDD_MEM pins decoupled with 10nF
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Supply Pins
• VDD_PIO and VDD_PADS tolerant of 1.7volts to 3.6volts VDD_PIO supplies PIO[1:3] and AUX_DAC
• VDD_PADS supplies PCM and SPI interfaces, PIO[4:15], RST#
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
USB Interface
• If USB is required, VDD_USB must be supplied by a 3.3volt low drop out regulator (LDO)
• XC6219A332MRN from Torex. If alternative is used, take care thatthe regulator contains an internal 100kΩ resistor on the control pin
• External regulator supplied by VBUS and enabled by 1.8volts fromthe regulator
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
USB interface
• ESD/EMI filter, also contains impedance matching network• USB also requires pull up resistor on the DP line. This is internal to
BlueCore5-MM External• If USB interface is not required, tie VDD_USB to 1.8volts, omit the
ESD protection and connect USB_P/N to ground

UART Interface
• UART is supplied through VDD_USB, hence this voltage must be present on the connector for this interface to operate
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Battery Charger
• Battery charger internal to BlueCore5-MM External• External charge voltage is connected via USB connector
directly to A12
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Battery Charger
• Lithium Polymer cell terminal voltage monitored internally by BlueCore5-MM external
• At a predefined level, headset turns off. Threshold set in firmware• 10μF or 4.7μF capacitor provides stability• Battery is connected to B13
– Input to switch mode regulator– Output from charger to battery
For Goertek Only
www.csr.com
Reset Circuitry
• Reset each time charging voltage is applied to the USB connector• Advantage: if firmware latches up, the headset can be reset without
having to wait until the battery resets• Disadvantage: lost call if charger is connected• Sometimes also have mechanical reset switch

Headset PlacementFor Goertek Only

Placement Order
• Antenna• RF components, BlueCore5-MM External and flash• Components whose placement is determined by the plastics: LEDs,
buttons, connectors• Crystal and load capacitors• Audio components• BlueCore5-MM External decoupling• Switch mode power supply• Linear regulator passives• Battery charger interface• USB supply• Test points
