Introduction
About Bijnor DistrictBijnor, a unique place among the districts of the Western Uttar Pradesh is lying at the foot ofthe Himalayas. The district of Bijnor was closely associated to the great epic of Mahabharata,and it is also believed that Vidur and Kuti was lived here during the Vedic period. At the time ofAkbar’s reign, Bijnor was a significant part of his Mughal Empire. In the early 1 8th century, theRohilla Pashtuns set up their independence in this area and called them by the name,Rohilkhand. Around the year 1748, the Rohilla chief named Ali Mohammed Khan annexed theplace of Bijnor, then the rest of which very soon went into the hands of Rohillas. Aftersometime Marathas captured Bijnor who were also instigated by enemies of Rohillas, leading toseveral battles. In 1772 the Nawab of Oudhmade a treaty with the Rohillas but the Rohillachieftains cheated the Nawab. In 1774 the Nawab concluded a treaty of alliance with the EastIndia Company government of Calcutta. In accordance with the terms mentioned in the treatythe East India Company had supplied a brigade to assist him in enforcing his claims against theRohillas. That led to the Rohilla War, the Rohillas were driven beyond the Ganges, and Bijnorwas incorporated in the territories of the Nawab of Oudh, who in 1774 ceded it to theBritishEast India Company. The British authority was there in the place until India got itsindependence and Bijnor as a separate district came into existence in November 1988.
Sahu Ramesh Chandra Jain, a famous media person, philanthropist, promoter ofIndian literature and leader of the worldwide Jain community was born on 15th August , 1925at Najibabad of the Bijnor District. During his life time he was honoured by two great awards-Honorary D. Lit by the Bundelkhand University and Jhansi Honour of Vidya Vachaspati byGurukul Kangri University.
Geographically, the district lies between 29°37'N latitude, 78°14'E longitude and 223 maltitude. In the year 2017, there was a total 8.81% forest area of total geographical area. Thedistrict encompasses a geographical area of 4,56 1 sq. km. and in terms geographical area itoccupies the ranks of 12th in the state and 24 6th in India. It is surrounded by Pauri Garhwaland Hardwar in the North, Moradabad in the South, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar in Eastand Saharanpur, Muzaffar Nagar and Meerut in the West. The prominent rivers that passesthrough the district are Ganga and Ramgan ga. The climate of the district remains pleasantduring the monsoon season. But during the summer its climate remains extremely hot andhumid. The district summer highest day temperature is in between 25°C to 4 4°C. Most of itsrainfall occurs in the monsoon season. The actual rainfall in the district was 982.8 mm in theyear of 2017-18.
Administrative wise, the district is divided into 5 sub-divisions namely Sardar, Chandpur,Dhampur, Nagina and Najibabad. On the other hand in order to administer in a better way the5 sub-divisions district is divided into 11 developmental blocks. There are 8 Assemblyconstituencies in the district likewise, Najibabad, Chandpur, Noorpur, Dhampur, Nagina, Bijnor,Barhapur and Nehtaur . Moreover, the district comprises 26 towns and 2,984 villages. Theadministrative language in the district is Hindi.
According to 2011 census the district has a population of 36,82,713 including 19,21,215 aremales and 17,61,498 are females. The district has a sex ratio of 917 females for every 1000males. During the year 2001-2011 the population growth of the district was 17.60% out ofwhich 16. 30% were males and 19.04% were females. The population density in the district is807 persons per sq. km. In the year 2016 the number of live births in the district was 1,21,059including 67,541 were males and 53,518 were females. In the same year the number of deathsin the district was 24,284 out of which 13,997 were males and 10,287 were females. As per2011 census the major religions of the district are Hindu and Muslim with 55.18% and 43.04%of the total population. According to 2011 census the principal languages in the district areHindi and Urdu with 76.33% and 22.53%.
