Garden Project: Current Accomplishments & Future PlansDone with the help of: SNHS, Mrs. Powell, Mr. Cable, Amie Tutor
Current Problems in the High Tunnel
Damage:
- A large rip in the side
- Gaps underneath the foundation
- Underworked soils
- General wear and tear.
Current Work With In The High TunnelWe are currently holding work days to touch up the high tunnel in order to start planting vegetables in late February/early March. In the picture on the left, volunteers are measuring the beds square feet, and on the right they are using soil to fill in the holes around the tunnel. In the past, we put up netting to keep birds out and chicken wire around the base to keep the rabbits out.
Plans for the High Tunnel
● There will be a spring planting in late February-early March.
● Crops will be monitored by teachers and SNHS members.
● Crops are normally donated to us from the Master Gardeners plant fair.
● The vegetables started in the spring will be harvested by the end of May for the students to taste.
Current & Future Plantings
● Radishes● Kale● Tomatoes● Herbs● Wildflowers● Spinach● Lettuce● Carrots● Broccoli● Beets
Future Plans for Growth and Expansion ● Expanding this program to the middle
school. ● Grants to cover the cost of:
- New high tunnel
- Supplies for the teachers and students
- Maintenance for the poly tunnel.
