Most satirical and Darkest novel. Written as a draft from 1790’s. Respectively the title of the novel was

‘Elinor and Marianne’. Sense is the literally part of the world. Sensibility through nature and beauty. Leads to the Romanticism. Reaction against rationality.

INTRODUCTION OF THE NOVEL

Love triangle takes place between Marianne Dashwood, Willoughby and Colonel Brandon as well.

Marianne thinks about social affairs, love and marriages.

‘Sense’ reflects Realism and ‘Sensibility’ reflects Romanticism.

Women’s writings presented here as a violations of its codes of prosperity.

‘Laughing Feminism’.Both the women character represents the

classicism through judgment and moderation.In the 18th and the 19th century, it is

recognized as reading of the gender stereotypes.

Austen has written this novel according to her society.

Women: not hopeless and helpless.‘All women are not living for marriage’.The novel reveals tensions rather than

ideological serenity.Her most anti feministic book.Dichotomy between fear of feminine authority

and desire.The feminist critic Patricia Meyer Spacks and

Deborah Kaplan says that the novel criticizes patriarchal values and practices.

Right to get education. Marianne attitude shows mildness. Elinor represents an image of broken hearted

woman. Frustration of woman. Class distinction of society. Gender discrimination. Suppressed desires of woman through the

character of Elinor.
