ATHINA® Identifier is a lightweight, robust biological agent identifier that is able to process samples using either Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase (RT), Immunoassay (IA), or a combination of these technologies in a single consumable. The ATHINA® Identifier is designed for use in non-traditional environments like mobile and remote laboratories that do not require infrastructure.
The ATHINA® Identification provides for a unique platform of simple sample to answer with no sample preparation and can be operated by non-technical personnel. It accepts aersolized and surface samples, and it is compatible with standard buffers.
The ATHINA® Identification Cartridge-PCR enables DNA-based identification. The ATHINA® Identification Cartridge-IA enables immunoassay or protein-based identification. Combination cartridges are available that combine both technologies into a single use consumable. All cartridges can be used with the same identification hardware to provide a very sensitive, high-confidence identification of up to 46 different spore forming and vegetative bacteria, virus and toxin threats. The ability to utilize orthogonal technologies, both immunoassay and PCR technologies, in the same platform is unique and enables the user either the flexibility to choose the right technology for the circumstance or provides confidence that two technologies confirm the same result.

The ATHINA® Identifier implements the Luminex xMAP® technology to identify biological threats. The xMAP® Technology combines advanced optics and digital signal processing with microsphere technology to deliver multiplexed assay capabilities. The ATHINA® Identifer offers an extremely user-friendly sample-in, answer-out functionality, with the same user experience for all cartridges.
