Armando Lulaj

Writer of plays, texts on risk territory and film author, producer of conflict images, Armando Lulaj is a lucid and disrespectful analyst of the dispositive and mechanisms of power hidden backstage of the international claimed forms. He has no desire to rivendicate the context of local belonging; rather, he is orientated toward accentuating the border between economical power, fictional democracy and social disparity in a global context”. In 2003 he founded the Debatikcenter of Contemporary Art. Debatikcenter was a debate centre who wants to analyse the recent changes in contemporary society. Recently, Debatikcenter Production Distribution has become more of a centre for film production. Armando Lulaj has participated in film festivals and exhibitions such as: The Prague Biennial (2003, 2007), Tirana Biennial (2003, 2005), the Albanian Pavilion in the 52 Venice Biennial (2007), the 4th Gothenburg Biennial (2007), the 8th Baltic Biennial of Contemporary Art, Szczecin, Poland (2009), the 6th Berlin Biennial (2010); 63 Berlinale Film Festival (2013). Among others residency programs we can mention IASPIS (2010).

DEMOCRACIA Work team formed in Madrid (Spain) by Pablo España and Iván López. The decision to work as a group springs from the intention of engaging in an artistic practice centred on discussion and the clash of ideas and forms of action. The fact of working in a group in itself establishes an interest in intervening in the social sphere, by means of ideas of commitment to the real. The projects reflect a concern with the progressive setting of scenes of social life; visible, in the increasing importance of the image, and also in the gradual incorporation of the simulacrum in the different realms of daily life, such as politics, technology, and culture. Also Democracia works in publishing (they are directors of Nolens Volens magazine) and curatorial projects (No Futuro, Madrid Abierto 2008, Creador de Dueños, Useful Art). They were founders and part of El Perro group (1989-2006).

Moataz Nasr (EG)

Moataz Nasr is an Egyptian painter, sculptor, multimedia artist and self-proclaimed cultural activists.

Nasr was born in Alexandria in August 1961. His father believed that art was not a profession, merely a hobby, so Nasr found himself studying economics in the University of Alexandria.[2] Nasr’s first entry into the Egyptian art scene came 1995 where he entered his work in a competition organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and received third prize. However, he was criticized by fellow artists for being an “outsider” to the Art scene, having not studied Art academically.

Nasr broke into the international art scene in 2001 when one of the leading Italian art galleries, Galleria Continua, displayed his work and added him to the list of top artists.Nasr has participated in many exhibitions and has won many awards including: coming third in the 7th Salon of Youth, a contest organized by the Ministry of Culture in 1995, the Prize of Painting in the Heliorama exhibition from the French Cultural center in Cairo in 1997, the Grand Prize in the 8th International Cairo Biennale in 2001, the Biennale Prize from Dakar Biennale in Senegal in 2002, the Ministry of Culture Prize, Dak’art Biennale, Dakar, Senegal in 2004 and the Grand Prize, Sharjah Bienniale, U.A.E in 2005.

In November 2008,Nasr founded Darb 1718. Darb 1718 is an Egyptian contemporary art and culture center located in the Fustat area of Old Cairo. It is a registered non-profit organization with the stated mission of being “a trampoline to advance the burgeoning contemporary art movement in Egypt.” It also aims at presenting local and international contemporary art, archiving artwork and maintaining a comprehensive database of art in Egypt and the MENA area, as well as acting as an educational front through providing workshops, projects and film screenings. The center also aims to engage the local Fustat community through community service and outreach programs.
