Shore area schools are rolling out 21st-century learn-ing tools and practices for the new year. School officialssay they spent the summer working on plans to improvetheir classrooms and better prepare students for thereal world.

“It’s critical that we continue to provide the re-sources and the energy that these students today re-quire,” said Lacey Schools Superintendent Sandra An-thony. “It’s a very personalized approach … and that’swhat we believe putting the technology in every stu-dent’s hand will do.”

At least five school districts, including Lacey, re-ported buying hundreds of Chromebooks — laptopsthat run on the Google Chrome operating system — forstudent use in the classroom or at home.

Other school districts say they will introduce Maker-Space labs, which provide tools and technology forhands-on activities, and full-day kindergarten.

BRICK — The truth behind what led to the fatalshooting of 21-year-old Julian Hoffman by police mayhinge on video surveillance footage rather than an eye-witness account.

Derek Hoffman, Julian’s father, told the AsburyPark Press that he is trying to obtain the surveillancefootage from the company that records it. There maybe at least two videos — one from the home and anotherfrom a camera posted within the townhouse neighbor-hood. A third video could have been recorded by a dash-cam from a police patrol car. Authorities have denied apublic records request from the Press for informationabout the dashcam.

Accessing the video recorded during the Aug. 23shooting on Cherrywood Circle has been delayed by thesecurity system company, according to a law enforce-ment source and sources close to the family. It is un-known why the company has not provided the footageyet.
