A Crash Course on Creativity

The idea of assignment was to see how our perception of the world will change if we start paying attention. In order to do so we needed to visit 6 different store/objects and try to see them with new eyes.

After just a few of them the patterns started to emerge.

PAYING ATTENTION

The moment one gives close attention to any thing, even a blade of grass it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself. Henry Miller

So, let see the stores in a new light

Outside Windows of a store are usually big and well lighten If there is a sale or some kind of promotion it is clearly shown is some

way in the window The most attractive products are placed so they can be easily seen The name of the store is big and noticeable

Inside-atmosphere

Almost all of the objects have high celling and they are well lit Often there was a music which fit the image of the store Rooms are always worm and without distinctive smell Floor is matching store image, but it also practical for maintenance

Product placemant and promotin

There is always some order in placing product, sometimes it is function, sometimes price or gender, and sometimes is combination of few criteria

Products on sale or with good price are in separated in same way (central place in object, big signs…)

There is enough room left for customers to go in between products

Usually it is allowed to touch products In grocery, products that re most common that they will be

bought are at the end of the store Impulse items are often by the cash register If price of product is good, it is marked in a way that it attracts

attention

Product placemant and promotin

Customers and stuff Stuff usually don’t have uniforms, but they are dressed in a way

that fit image of store There is no specific time that they need to approach, but when

they asked tey are kind and helpful It is evident lack of education in sale Customers like to walk around store, even when they knew what

they want and where it is They often touch and try products If they are just looking around the store they have tendency to

move away from sales person or toward sale products

What could be better

Personal should have more training in sale Prices can be more easy to fing Shopping should become more personalized with

combination of online and offline shopping Move more cash registers toward exit

Lessons learned

No matter how good you think you are in observing, you can become better

There is always more to know about everything

Even boring can become fun if you change approach

Look around, look carefully
