Prayers and Good Deeds from our Kids This week I prayed for: My grandma and puppy, dad, my family, my brother, good health, my grandparents in heaven, my classmates getting confirmed, the Ukraine. I gave my time and talents to others this week by: helping some friends with a math problem, helping my mom cook, helping my family with chores, helping my mom at work.

  • From the Pastors Desk Todays Gospel gives our Lenten journey a joyful tone because it talks about the revival of Lazarus, which is an announcement about the Resurrection of Christ and our resurrection. Last weekend, as we heard the dialogue between Jesus and the blind man we looked at the future of our parish and church. In perspective, our parish has much light and brightness, although it does not lack shade and difficulty, which are a natural factor that every family and community encounters. Today, we are encouraged by the words that are directed to Martha: I am the resurrection and the life, do you believe this? for someone who believes in Christ death is not considered to be an end or a problem. I believe that with Christ and in joy of the faithful. Next weekend is Palm Sunday and we begin Holy Week. Before every Holy Mass, we will bless the palms in the vestibule and proceed in procession into the church. For all of us Catholics this is manifestation of our faith. I would like to invite everyone to Christs solemn entrance to our church on Palm Sunday. Also, on that day we will have a collection for Easter flowers. Please be generous with the offerings for flowers and for Easter so that we may decorate our church admirably for the most important holyday of our faith and so that our church may have the necessary resources to continue its mission, which is proclaiming the Risen Christ.

To Veil or not to Veil? If you go to the Roman Missal and turn to the section for the Fifth Sunday of Lent, youll find this rubric: In the Dioceses of the United States, the practice of covering crosses and images throughout the church from this Sunday may be observed. Crosses remain covered until the end of the celebration of the Lords Passion on Good Friday, but images remain covered until the beginning of the Easter Vigil. Note that the practice is not mandated by the United States Bishops but simply allowed. It is not an obligatory practice, and parishes that choose not to veil crosses or statues during Passiontide are certainly following liturgical law. Also note that it is never allowed to veil crosses or statues throughout the entire season of Lent. (Nor is it allowed to empty the font of holy water during the season of Lent.) Crosses and statues may only be veiled during Passiontide from the end of the Mass for the Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent to Good Friday (for the one main cross to be venerated) and the beginning of Easter Vigil for images. The Circular Letter Concerning the Preparation and Celebration of the Easter Feasts provided by the Vaticans Congregation for Divine Worship in 1988 states that after the Mass of the Lords Supper on Holy Thursday, [i]t is fitting that any crosses in the church be covered with a red or purple veil, unless they have already been veiled on the Saturday before the fifth Sunday of Lent (57). -Bishop McGrath, Diocese of San Jose

The Passion of the Christ The season of Lent asks us to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us. As we prepare to commemorate Holy Week, the parish is offering a viewing of Mel Gibsons film, The Passion of the Christ. The movie will be shown on Palm Sunday evening, April 13, at 7:15 p.m. in the Chapel. Ruthanne Swiatkowski, our Religious Education Director, will be the host for the viewing of this powerful, moving film.

  • Padre Pio Plaza Bricks We invite you to purchase a brick for the Padre Pio Plaza. Forms can be picked up in the rectory. The next bricks will be coming in the Spring of 2014. Respect Life Join believers throughout the world in praying the Lenten Prayer for Life, found atwww.PrayerCampaign.org. Sponsored by Priests for Life, this prayer campaign enables us to pray in the spirit of Lenten penance that the world may turn away from the Culture of Death and embrace a Culture of Life. Then, after Lent, this same campaign will provide a prayer for the Easter Season, focusing on the victory of life. Pray these daily prayers with your families! Collected Pledged Goal

Parish Pastoral Council The St. Francis Borgia Parish Pastoral Council was formed eight years ago after a 18-month training session lead by the Archdiocesan Director of Office for Councils. The PPC members are from the various ministries/organizations of the Parish along with members of the Polish and Italian communities of our parish. The PPC is an advisory council to the Pastor. Per Archdiocesan rules, all parishes are to have a PPC. Many topics are discussed and suggestions given to the Pastor for his consideration. Father brings his concerns to the council for their advice and/or recommendation. The term of members is for three years (except for the original council). Each year three or four members leave and their replacements come on the council so there are always new and existing members for continuity. Each member, except the Chair and Vice Chair, are members of one of the four commissions ---Spiritual Life, Parish Life, Human Concerns and Catholic Education. In May, the last three members of the original council will be leaving and three new members will replace them. When the call goes out for suggestions for representatives for the council, please suggest either yourself or someone you feel would make a good representative to be considered for membership on the council.

    Holy week Schedule

Golden Club There will be a meeting on Thursday, April 10. Doors open at 12:00pm and the meeting will begin at 1:15pm. Please remember to bring your non-perishable food donations for St. Cyprians Food Pantry. For more information call Connie Castillo: 773-589-1857

Parish Pastoral Council Commissions The Parish Pastoral Council Commissions will not be meeting in April or June unless a special meeting is called. The purpose of the commission meetings is for information to flow from the Council to the ministries/organizations of the parish and back to the ministries/organizations. This is not happening. When we had the first commission meeting in 2006, we had 60 people in attendance. Now we get three or four. Each ministry/organization falls under one of the four commissions spiritual Life, Parish Life, Human Concerns or Catholic Education and should have a representative on the Commission board, We will try again to stimulate interest in this group so the council and the ministries/organizations can work together for the benefit of our parish.

Second Collection on Palm Sunday will be for Easter Flowers. Thank you!
