EventANGELFIRE,NM-(January15,2020)–AngelFireResortisdoingwhatnootherwinterresorthas.ThenorthernNewMexicodestinationisturningtheirskimountainintoaConeyIsland-styleboardwalkforthefirstWinterCarnival.Theeventwillincludeafull-sizeMerry-Go-Roundatthebaseofthemountain.Guestscanalsocompeteinracesandtraditionalmidwaygameslikeringtoss,spillthemilk,andaxthrowing.Therewillbeplentyofprizesandphotoopportunities.TheWinterCarnivalgamesandrideswillbeopenfromnoonto4pmThursday,January30throughSaturday,February1.,and10amtonoononSunday,February2.Allridesandgamesarefreetothepublic.TheweekendwinterfestivitieswillalsoincludeonefinalyearofthelegendaryWorldChampionshipShovelRaces.Theresortisexpectingapproximately100racerstowaxuptheirshovelforthe41stAnnualAngelFireResortWorldChampionshipShovelRaces.Thisyear,anyonecancompeteforthecovetedWorldChampionshiptitle.CompetitorsagessixandolderareinvitedtocompeteintheJanuary31-February1,2020event.“Wewantedtoexpandonourfamilyactivitiesfortheweekend,”statedGregRalph,directorofmarketing,AngelFireResort.“Whetheryou’reashovelracer,spectator,skier,orafamilyjustlookingforsomeout-of-the-ordinaryoutdooractivities,you’llbehard-pressedtofindsomethingmoreuniquethanridingaMerry-Go-Roundonaskimountainwhilewatchingashovelracerflydownthemountain.”Shovelracingbeganasasimplecontestinthe1970swhenliftoperatorswouldridetheirshovelsdownthemountainattheendoftheirshifts.Racerscompetebysittingonthescoopofastandardaluminumgrainshovel,handlepointeddownhill,andthenlifttheirhandsandfeettoallowgravitytotakethemforaride.Theracersarecompetingforcash,prizes,andfinalbraggingrights.“TheWorldChampionshipShovelRaceshavebeenapartofourresort’shistoryforoverfourdecades.WhilewearesoproudofourheritageandhowShovelRacingplaysaroleinthat,weknowtheeventhaschangedinthepast15years.Weareexcitedtomakethisthebestwinterweekendonaskimountain.Wearelookingforwardtocontinuing
