Al llegar a Alcalá de los Gazules elturista se topa inevitablementecon la Iglesia Mayor Parroquial deSan Jorge, que con su estilo góti-co y barroco se erige guardando el

municipio. En la plaza del mismonombre, plaza de San Jorge seconcentran diversas casas seño-riales entre las que destaca laCasa del Cabildo, que data del s.XVI y que ofrece al turista un con-traste de colores y superposicio-nes arquitectónicas únicas.

Muy próximo a la plaza se encuen-tran el Convento de Santa Clara, laIglesia de San Francisco y elConvento de Santo Domingo. Otromonumento de interés que ofreceAlcalá de los Gazules es la Fuentede la Salada, junto a la ladera delMonte Coracha y que se construyópara aprovechar un fortuito ma-nantial que surgió en una roca.

Un poco más alejado del núcleourbano, a unos 5 kilómetros seencuentra el yacimiento romanode la Mesa del Esparragal, cono-cido por dar descubrimiento alBronce de Lascuta que hoy sepuede encontrar en el Museo delLouvre, y el yacimiento de Laja delos Hierros situado en la fincaMonte Alto.

Además del entorno cultural,Alcalá de los Gazules reúne lascondiciones para la práctica dedeportes al aire libre. El Picacho,zona de acampada al aire libre yalbergue de Montes Propios, ofre-ce al visitante disfrutar de un díacon la naturaleza y practicar de-portes como la bicicleta, el sende-rismo, la escalada, el piragüis-mo..., entre otros.

Los productos de la tierra son los principales ingredientes de su ricagastronomía. Los platos más representativos se componen de los vegetalesque crecen de forma silvestre en el campo, sin olvidarnos de los productosde la caza o de la repostería. De su amplia carta sobresalen el gazpachocaliente, las berzas, las sopas de espárragos y los estofados. Espárragos ytagarninas son utilizados también en tortillas, revueltos y otros platos. Entresus postres, el dulce de almendra, buñuelos, pestiños, calostros y lapopular torta del pellizco.

Alcalá está integrada en el Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, aportandoaproximadamente el veinte por ciento del terreno que conforma dicho parque.Entre su riquísima vegetación y fauna autóctona se pueden encontrar especiesdifícilmente localizables en otras latitudes, como son la curiosa plantacarnívora conocida como “la gazul”, o el cérvido más pequeño que se conoce,el simpático corzo. Alcalá de los Gazules nos permite desarrollar todo tipo deactividades de ocio al aire libre, como el senderismo, el piragüismo, labicicleta de montaña o el descenso de cañones.

When it comes to nature, approximately twenty per cent of the landbelonging to the municipal area is par t of the Alcornocales NaturePark. Among its rich autochthonous vegetation species can be foundthat are rarely seen anywhere else, including a curious carnivorousplant known as "la gazul", and the smallest known woodlandcaribou, the charming roe deer. Alcalá de los Gazules is a good spotfor all types of open-air leisure activities, including hiking, canoeing,mountain biking and abseiling.

sich Spezies, denen man in anderen Gefilden selten begegnet, so der kuriose

Fleisch fressende Pflanze "gazul" [Eiskraut] oder dem kleinsten bekannten

Hirschtier, dem niedlichen Reh. In Alcalá de los Gazules kann man allen Arten

von Freizeitaktivitäten an der frischen Luft nachgehen: Wandern, Rafting,

Mountain Bike oder gar Canyoning, um nur einige zu nennen.

En la zona encontramos yacimientos prehistóricos como la Laja de los Hierros,situada en la finca Monte Abajo, junto al río Álamo, que contiene grabadosrupestres de carácter esquemático estrechamente relacionados con laspinturas del Tajo de las Figuras. Algo más tardío es el yacimiento romano de ElEsparragal. Dentro de la ciudad, que en época romana debió de ser la “TurrisLascutana”, pueden visitarse los depósitos romanos de La Salada, junto a lafuente del mismo nombre, y la vía popularmente conocida como “la calzada”.También destacan los monumentos declarados Bien de Interes Cultural comoel Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Santos que alberga los cuadros de losexvotos, o la Parroquia de San Jorge, conocida como plaza alta.

There are prehistoric remains in the area, including Laja de los Hierros on theMonte Abajo estate alongside the river Álamo, where schematic cave paintings,very similar to the Tajo de las Figuras (Cleft of the Figures) paintings, have beendiscovered. The El Esparragal Roman remains are rather more recent. In the townitself, which in Roman times was known as "Turris Lascutana", the La SaladaRoman remains and the fountain of the same name are open to the public, alongwith the road commonly known as "la calzada". Also worth mentioning are thenumerous monuments declared Property of Cultural Interest, such as theSanctuary of Our Lady of the Saints, which houses a collection of votivepaintings, or the Parish Church of San Jorge, known as high square.

Ebenso die im Volksmund "la calzada" [die gepflasterteStraße] genannte Straße. Erwähnenswert sind auch die mit dem Titel 'Bien deInteres Cultural' als interessante Kulturgüter eingestuften Bauten wie dieKapelle Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Santos mit ihren Votivbildern oderdie Parroquia de San Jorge, auch als 'hoher Platz' bekannt.

El ciclo festivo alcalaíno se inicia con sus singulares carnavales. El 23de abril, conmemorando la entrada de Alfonso X, se celebra lafestividad de San Jorge, patrón de la ciudad. Las actividades tienenlugar en la parte alta del pueblo, con suelta de vaquillas, bailes típicosy degustaciones gastronómicas. El último fin de semana de agosto secelebra la Real Feria en honor de la patrona de Alcalá, que tiene suepílogo el 12 de septiembre con la concurrida romería al Santuario deNuestra Señora de los Santos.

The festival year begins with Alcala´s unique carnival. The festival ofSan Jorge, patron saint of the city, is celebrated on 23 April, tocommemorate the arrival of Alfonso X. The activities take place in thehighest part of the town, with bull running, typical dances and foodtasting. The Real Feria (Royal Fair) in honour of the patron of Alcalátakes place during the last weekend of August , with an epilogue on 12September in the shape of the pilgrimage to the Nuestra Señora de losSantos (Our Lady of the Saints) Sanctuary.
