DESCRIPTION

Agile is changing the way we create software. Design, and Design Thinking, is becoming pivotal to business success. The UX game is changing, and you need to step up!Daniel Oertli (CIO, REA Group) and Jason Furnell (Experience Design consultant, ThoughtWorks) will discuss the changing role of UX in fast moving, Agile development environments, presenting case studies demonstrating the impact that a design-led approach has had at Australia’s No.1 real estate site (www.realestate.com.au).This talk will present concepts that will challenge your thinking and introduce you to new methods that will increase your impact as a designer working on software and business strategy projects. The Agile development methodology dramatically changes the role of designers: the build is the design. Agile concepts like ‘working software over comprehensive documentation’ and the disciplines of ‘just enough’ and ‘just in time’, mean that traditional, heavy weight specification documentation is no longer effective – or even possible.Practitioners need to find ways to ‘power up’ their design impact. Jason and Daniel will discuss how to use collaborative design as a ‘force multiplier’, share the experience of designing in real-time, and show you how to let go, be fearless and take your team with you on a journey that builds trust, buy-in and design momentum. They will challenge you to shift your focus; to make the transition to design thinking, and focus on design facilitation in order to increase the scale and complexity of the things you design.

His  Real-‐estate  StoryDavid  owns  an  investment  townhouse  with  his  brother.  Purchasing  this  was  a  process  that  took  almost  a  year.  They  went  to  10-‐15  aucHons  before  they  finally  got  a  barging  (a  for  sale  property  that  had  not  been  listed  yet  on  REA).  Since  then  its  gone  up  in  value  a  lot.  He  currently  checks  REA  3-‐4  Hmes  a  week  to  keep  his  finger  on  the  pulse,  and  because  he  is  hoping  to  sell  this  property  and  buy  another  one  in  a  year  or  two

To  find  there  current  property  they  looked  on  REA  and  in  local  papers.  They  search  in  a  suburb,  and  limited  results  by  price.  Once  they  had  found  a  place  they  thought  was  interesHng  they  would  then  print  out  the  details,  and  set  off  on  a  Saturday  to  view  2-‐3  open  for  inspecHons.  Back  then  he  didn’t  have  an  iPhone,  but  hasn't  used  a  Melways  for  direcHons  since  he  got  one.  At  inspecHons  they  would  walk  into  each  room,  try  to  imagine  where  things  would  go,  and  If  they  liked  a  place  they  would  take  photos  and  video  using  a  phone,  a  more  realisHc  view  of  the  property  that  they  could  show  family  and  friends.

David  thinks  that  he  would  visit  REA  twice  as  much  as  he  does  now  if  he  had  a  good  app.  Looking  on  the  train  and  during  other  down  Hme.

REAPA  Features  :  What  I  need  that’s  not  there…1. Photos  –  Domains  are  much  be"er,  you  can  zoom  and  see  bigger  pictures.  (also  I  only  want  to  search  for  properHes

with  photos2. Price  increments  –  scroll  is  be"er,  but  I  want  50k  increments  (had  problems  with  se^ng  price  in  domain)3. Email  a  friend  –  i  use  this  all  the  Hme4. Get  direcEons  –  important  from  the  PDP  (like  domain)5. Short  list  /  View  of  my  properEes  with  sat  inspecHon  Hmes.  Got  domain  star  “just  like  iTunes”6. Sort  by  –  if  I’m  using  it  8  Hme  per  week  I  want  to  see  the  new  ones  first,  and  someHmes  sort  by  lowest  prices7. Map  –  expects  bounding  box  search  on  map  interacHons8. Calculator  –  Likes  it  9. On  map  view  was  looking  for  the  “current  locaHon”  thing  like  Google  maps  in  bo"om  right  corner

Iphone  UsageWork  Phone.  Uses  Facebook,  and  sports  apps  like  bombers,  Foot  ,EPL,  TAB,  F1,  Cricket  buzz  all  the  Hme.  Twi"er.  No  Realestate  apps.
